I don't think it matters who will lead the Labour Party! I suspect the language of socialism will die with our generation. Having spoken to younger people I conclude that they just don't get it. They haven't experienced the advantages we had and don't understand the idea of an alternative. Zappa described them as "foolish young consumers!"
Shirley Williams gets it! Democracy is for sale in a corporate state. The American model is on the way- one bunch of loony right wingers, and one slightly less right wing bunch.

It would appear that the exit polls were not too far out (see convo earlier Thursday eveing - glad I went to bed).

So the people of the country who are fed-up with DC & his party have, well, er, decided not to show him the door!

What happened?, the SNP votes aside, I'm currently seeing a sea of blue and a "+22" for seats gained and a total of 325 with 8 to declare.

The SNP won it for the Tories.  Labour were ahead in marginals throughout England but the spectre of the SNP militantly trying to syphon off monies and favours for Scotland with no regard for England was more than moderate English voters could bare.

The Scottish left thought it was so, so clever getting rid of the 'Red Tories' but failed to appreciate or even care that English moderate floating voters who were going to vote Labour were pushed in the opposite direction at the last minute.

The so-called Scottish left is the reason why we have a Tory government.  I hope they'll have the common decency to think about what they've done as the Tory parasites spend the next five years kicking the poorest.

When the boundary changes come in it's going to get even worse for Labour, can't see  a labour govt. any time soon in the future.

Utter rubbish!  The reason you/we have a Tory government is because your English compatriots voted them in.

I got this one wrong, I was convinced an SNP vote would deliver a Tory government. In the end they were irrelevant.
I can't see us ever coming back from this.

I think you're right Joe, once Cameron changes the boundary lines, and with the SNP having a death grip on Scotland until they get the second referendum they want I think this election has been a game changer to end all game changers.

Sadly I agree.   Utterly depressing.

I don't think it would be that straight forward Rog. I think it would still have to reflect (to some degree) the strength of the vote in particular areas.

Though having said that, the last chart probably wouldn't be a great deal different - fewer seats for UKIP and a bit more for SNP. Possibly fewer seats for the Lib Dems too, so maybe putting SNP 4th and Lib Dems 5th,

Not me, Fluffy.  If I recall correctly, it was John Major's description of members of his own cabinet!  (Not very often that I agree with a Tory, but on that occasion ... )

It was an ITN interview - which he thought had concluded but was still being recorded. Michael Portillo and Peter Lilley were 2 of those that he was referring toâ€Ķ so such profanity was justified!
