it's a surreal situation. The North East has a long history of industry, working class values and so forth. Obviously our rights have been eaten away since the 1979 disaster.

Everytime one asks the local UKIP candidate how he will ameliorate the defects of capitalism, restore workers union rights, bring in proper contracts, pensions etc. he goes very silent. We do know he blamed the local floods on gay marriage though.

Yet people still vote for them! You couldn't make it up.
