Ah well!.....

Meanwhile, here are pictures of Michael Shelford, who plays Harry.

I think you may be right Brisket As for Harry.... he's not a bit like I imagined him But Tom.... phwoarrrr... he's not half bad I hope they aren't going to close the Bull !!!

HI There! Not a prank. A deeply held grievance. I only found out about Nigel/Graham's knifing a few days ago having returned from abroad and was gutted. On the Archers fansite someone there asked for an online petition but said they were not up to it. I stepped forwards...and shared it with the 3 Archers forums I found on the web. It took a while to do all that, so I have not been able to spend more time following up until now. I know there has been a time lag which was unavoidable due to my absense, but I still think that if this petition is emailed around, publicised, though it now won't change history, it may grow and grow and show the BBC we are not happy, and Graham Seed, in his Today interview (which is on Youtube), did say how much he appreciated the voices of support. Without a doubt Nigel made me feel happy when listening to him for all these years and I want the BBC to know they made a big mistake and I want Graham to know we value him.

I am not intentionally listening to the Archers anymore and turn off when I remember my boycott.

Cheers
N

Hereis a picture of some of the younger members of The Archers cast.

(Left to right) Tom Graham (Tom Archer), Hollie Chapman (who plays Alice), Emerald o'Hanrahan (Emma), Will Sanderson-Thwaite (Christopher), and Helen Monks (Pip.)

I somehow guessed Pip might look like that.
I can't stand Pip the character, and I can't stand Pip the actress.

Well Baz I think we were a bit doubtful about whether a Jolene / Kenton relationship would be a good idea.
And yet......
the ending of tonight's programme made me smile    (and I think I said something nice out loud too.)
I thought it was nicely written and performed. So I am now quite prepared to have an open mind about it.
I am finding Elizabeth's monotone grieving pretty tedious now. I know grieving is inevitable and takes time,  but I dont think we need her to do it in real time. (A little surprised that Peggy has not appeared with a few words of wisdom for Elizabeth.)
I have changed my mind about Kenton and Jolene and am prepared to go along with it (until the writers do something outrageously stupid that is.)
brisket
I agree Brisket..... I thought tonights episode was quite sweet... and, like you say, well written and very natural. I hope the story writers don't spoilt it!! I too am fed up with the Elizabeth/David storyline. As for Peggy, she's not been heard for a while, has she? There seemed to be a storyline about her and the American guy developing... and then suddenly, nothing.
Baz
I am like you about the Kenton/Jolene storyline Brisket In fact, I think it is quite sweet I do wonder if this is because I intially found Jolene/Sid an unlikely couple... As for Elizabeth, it is starting to annoy me a bit....She was always portrayed as an astute businesswoman, and I find her determination not to get a manager in to help out with Lower Loxley as a bit unbelievable. I am looking forward to Eddie's trip to the races though Although the lovely Clarrie also seems to have had a personality transplant lately!!

However  Jolene is "ready"!

I know.....I wonder how the producers are going to deal with Jolene being *ready Brisket?  And poor Eddy and Joe.... rumbled again As for Jaimie....I agree.  But I do wish they would stop bringing characters like Peggy and Christine in for 5 minutes and then ignore them again for weeks...  How do you think the inquest will go? Do you think David will go into meltdown?

Baz

Baz

It was amusing that Eddie and Joe were thwarted yet again!

I agree about the fleeting, intermittent characters. It makes them feel like a gap-filler rather than an equal character.

The inquest - oh dear, I'm anxious. I hate the prospect of David continuing as he is, - so I hope in some way it can be cathartic for him.

I hope so too Brisket.... cos otherwise he is going to blow a gasket.. I have to admit though, I am loving the Jolene/Kenton storyline

Baz

Joe - I have a feeling that it has lost it's way a little since Nigel's death.

Don't know if it's coincidence, or if the producers have lost sight of The Archers we know and love.

I still listen regularly but......

Baz I agree with you.  David didn't sound at all released to me. Ruth's ultimatum to him was timely. but I felt it was left as if the writers were going to wring more from it.  Oh dearie me.

That was my take on it too Brisket I hope we don;t go down the nervous breakdown, or worse , route What do you think about the Kate/Pheobe storyline?

Oh I do so agree with you Baz......

Yes I know it is all very tragic, and I am sure - like all human beings - that David has his vulnerabilities; but surely they don't expect the self-aware David we have known for so long to have a personaility change, whatever the emotional pressures. I am wary.

As for Kate/Phoebe  - well I just cannot find the words to describe my thoughts about Kate!!!!!!

I also think they are being a bit inconsistent with Phoebe in recent weeks.

I sometimes wish they would stop trying to be too clever and relevant, and return to being an 'everyday story of country folk'.

Of course, there will be many who disagree with me.

Baz         I think Peter Cat gave us a link to an article about it a little higher up the thread (^^^^)

It appears that they may give a voice to some of the characters who have so far been silent.

I'm not clear why they just don't introduce them into the main programme though.

I may (or may not) try to listen. Not sure yet.

I was listening to More or Less on Radio 4 1/4/2011 and Graham Seed appeared as the new presenter, but it became a confusion about falling off roofs statistics with the actual presenter, and alas, I realised it was an April Fool. But the tone seemed to suggest that a lot of folk have complained to the BBC, and like some of us, myself included, have just stopped listening. My initial trill that Graham had been given a new job by the BBC soured....

Oh ... sorry Brisket...(and Peter Cat) I missed that I only heard it on Radio 7 yesterday...... (I listen to 7 quite a lot).  Nigelfan I heard the trailer for More and Less this morning and also got quite excited about it, but then twigged that it was an April Fool..... and like you, felt disappointed...

Again I agree Baz.  Too often the producers and  writers change a person unreasonably just to fit in with their latest idea. They seem to ignore the fact that it loses credibility when they do that.

For decades we have thought of The Archers as giving us real ordinary people. They should stick to that.

Disappointed that Caroline - and her feelings - has been considered only very little during this storyline. I recall that Caroline was doing a big favour to help Elizabeth.....now look what's come of it.

Kathy is another one who has had multiple personality changes over the years (although I dare say the producers would somehow justify it.)

I totally agree Brisket Kathy, Clarrie, and now it seems Elizabeth.... I expect they will explain it cos of her bereavement, but it just doesn't ring too somehow..... but loved Eddie and Joe getting their comeuppance

I'll say more in the Radio 4 Extra thread.
