You don't have to take them......you can get a shuttle bus from the ship to town and wander about on your own

I did a 3 week tour of west america it was really fantastic. I couldnt do a cruise though.

Very unprepared, I have been on tours and the tour guide is usually very engaging and with alot of knowledge.

Nor me...cruising is a great way to see places, but we wander off on our own much better than being herded about on a route march
