I dont really know enough about The Amish but surely thay must have contact with some technology?
each community is different. some will have electricity but most don't. There are always non Amish people who live near by who they can go to if they need to make a phone call to the emergency services etc. They can hire a taxi to take them to the City for hospital appointments but they can't drive themselves other than a horse and buggy. As for their teeth? I don't think they are polluted as much as we are with regards to their teeth by sweet things but I can picture some big bloke with a pair of pliers
I want an Amish bed!!!!!

h... nothing like a nice night in, sewing by the gas lamp. I keep shaking my head here in disbelief.

Thanks Pengy, i thought that myself re the teeth. Sorry if i sounded patronising, i wasnt. Its hard to say in print, if we were face to face we could have a conversation! I am willing to learn about them, dont know if this show does them justice. But i havent seen enough, so i will shut up now!

I think it's a pity that they didn't finish the show by showing the British Teenagers going to spend a few weeks within an Amish community - now that would have been an eye opener Reference:
Dancing is the work of Satan. That sounds so sad
I know.. but I veer between feeling sorry for them for what they're missing and slightly envying the fact that they're so secure in what they believe. Wouldn't want to be one though!

You're better off scooting up to the Kent coast or further west along the Sussex coastline,

Me too It's also hard to hear phrases like Dancing is the work of Satan for us in that, we are now such an irreligious society. Also, they have been bought up to believe what they are told and not to question it. They sound as if they have more in common with Islam than Christianity

I noticed that Ros and yet she has been the main spokesperson so I was surprised!

I can't say I've ever wanted to kill anyone after listening to music... unless you count the young idiot next door that likes to let us listen to his music at 4 a.m.

As much as it talks of sides of the Medway, it's more down to the location of pubs.
Such a good way of doing geography, eh?
Secure or brainwashed? They know nothing of other worlds and so I feel it's not a balanced view that they have. They don't 'know' whether their way is the right way - it's the only way!

Yes, I know.. but they don't know they're repressed - so they don't mind. At least they do get the opportunity to go out and see the world, I suppose.
Right - same time next week... shall we retire to the highlights thread now?
