DENT is claiming children in this country are starving - i think that is rubbish.

Where is her evidence - and yours? (no offensive meant there as it sounds rather demanding)

I trained as a teacher and met hundereds of kids.

My sister has three children and i have been into their school over and over for the best part of ten years.

I have never met any child that is starving and cannot recall any concern i had about a child being malnourished.

Well... I could point to the brother and sister at school with my niece's kids whose parents are drug addicts and often turn up at school dirty and hungry - but then I've not been a teacher/care worker/all round caring person so what do I know

Saint - I too trained as a teacher - mine was an OU qualification and i worked every day in school having worked there previously as a TA. I chose this particular school because of the 'challenges' - ironically it was because of this I chose not to teach once I'd trained.

It was in a very deprived area 84% of the kids were on free dinners -you didn't see a lot of faddiness that you see in some schools - the kids wolfed it down and came back for seconds. there were no breakfast clubs in those days but the staff all contributed towards a fund so all children got a drink/biscuit and or fruit at break because lots of them had come to school on an empty stomach.

They may not be actually starving but a lot of kids really don't get proper meals on a regular basis.

Dents article was not rubbish - you may live in a privileged area where kids don't go hungry - don't make the mistake of thinking it's like that everywhere.

Wonder will the BBC repeat their drama The Long Walk to Finchley, about Mrs Thatcher's early life. Grace Dent ain't kidding about the chauvinist types who told her, her place wasn't in politics, but at home looking after the kids. I had no idea how long Mrs T had to fight to stand as an MP, in a winnable seat. It was an eye opener.

I worked in some rough areas - dunno if it was the worst or not - I can only say what i see.

Most can come up with 'an' example of a deprived child but i don't accept that it is anything other than the exception or I would have surely come across it, once.

Tell me you're kidding please?

If 'most' of us know even only one example - that's a hell of a lot of examples, no?

RIP anyway...

Yer, but not in Scotland, yet Scotland had to put up with all her decrees.

However it wasn't her idea to introduce the poll tax in Scotland first, it was the Scottish Tories (yes, we actually had some back then).....apparently.

So is the quiz out there or are you planning it? I love a quiz me.

He posed a guessing game upthread Sooz, hence the 12.12 reference ^^^ but the question is too confusing to unpick!

Sorry Olls... I read that in a footstamping 'I'm taking my ball home, so there! '  voice.     (I won't be voting for independence btw)
