Washed out black, I'd say. One too many washes in Aerial on a boil wash.

perfectly explained Cosi
Well I see blue and green, so what kind of eyesight do I have?
earlier white and gold but now blue and black
earlier white and gold but now blue and black
See, white and gold earlier, but a blue hue and gold now

I saw that on FB last night - I can only see white/gold. I feel cheated.
and me...why would anyone think its blue/black?
i dont understand
it is blue/black
Well apparently the REAL colours are Royal Blue and black.

I knew that

I knew that
so did I
Doncha just hate them!
Right, I saw this earlier today on facebook. It was 100% definitely white and gold No doubt about it. Then I clicked into this thread and thought 'that's a bad picture of it' because then it was a creamy colour and after reading a few comments I scrolled back up to the pic and it was flipping blue and black!!!
I'm getting lilac and olive now
One of my son's sees black and blue and the other white and gold.
I'm really frustrated! I see white and gold but want to see blue and black
I've tried everything! Squinting, turning sideways, squishing my eyes in a very dangerous manner, and the damn thing is just determined to be gold.
Kaffs miraculous 24 hour change has given me hope though.
I saw it on FB last night and though my niece was on a wind up. All last night, all day today - here, on FB, on various sites - white and gold. Tonight, after dinner, white and gold. Then scrolled up and black and blue .. and on all the other sites too. Guess what? It's white and gold again now.
I'm just going to scroll back up....
nope, still white and gold.
I feel I've let you down, Duckster.. sorry.
Lilac and brown !!
Its blue and a washed out black / charcoal How people can see it as white and gold is amazing

The colours look much more vibrant there
The first thing to say is that it's a really bad photo!
Secondly, after seeing that website I'm understanding the confusion a bit better. I saw the real dress on the BBC and under the studio lights it looked very blue, however from the website image it looks like it can catch the sunlight which would explain why I'm seeing it a lot paler in the photo.
It's really interesting how you can see it differently each time you look at it.
It's partly down to lighting, but also the colours around the photo (which is why it can appear differently if you see it on different browsers or websites).
the first time I saw it, it definitely looked a "blue" white and gold, although I suspect that may have been "planted" in my head by, for example, this thread's title. Most of the time I see it as lilac and bronze or sometimes olive.
Sometimes the lower part of the dress appears a grey-blue and black/charcoal (unlike the OP, a lot of the news sites crop the bottom of the photo).
Here are some older optical illusions that work in the same way:
EL, I agree with you that the picture I posted was not a good photo but it was the photo that got people around the world talking about it. The pictures of the dress in the article I linked to showed the same picture but also better pictures of the dress which are more obviously blue and black.
Apparently if you tilt your screen forward and back it changes the colours - it definitely lightens the shades for me but I still can't see white and gold.
I think we should round up and quarantine the white and gold peeps as they're obviously aliens from another planet
One thing did occur to me, I know its all to do with cones and receptors in the eye. Is it affected by eye colour, I see it as blue and black, I have blue eyes so therefore less pigment in my eyes. Do people with more pigment, ie brown eyes see it as white and gold or am I completely barking up the wrong tree?

Not for me Squiggle - I've got brown eyes and see blue and black
OMG, it was blue and black all day yesterday and today it's the same

Darn it another theory up in smoke

It was white and gold this morning... I just did the tilt screen thing, kept watching and 'caught' it when it was darkest - put the screen back and now it's staying blue and black again.. so I guess I 'unfooled' my eyes. I know it's something scientific to do with the light that I can't understand, but it's still doing my head in...
