I'm wasting my life away being jealous of you blue/black folk.

Nah, we are equal Ducky, they just see colours like we do   (not specific colours mind)

Ditto  Except it's more sort of khaki than black

yep, slightly lighter than black..but black for easiness

Washed out black, I'd say.  One too many washes in Aerial on a boil wash.

I've tried everything! Squinting, turning sideways, squishing my eyes in a very dangerous manner, and the damn thing is just determined to be gold.

Kaffs miraculous 24 hour change has given me hope though.

I saw it on FB last night and though my niece was on a wind up.  All last night, all day today - here, on FB, on various sites - white and gold.  Tonight, after dinner, white and gold.  Then scrolled up and black and blue .. and on all the other sites too.  Guess what?  It's white and gold again now.

I'm just going to scroll back up....

nope, still white and gold.

I feel I've let you down, Duckster.. sorry.

The first thing to say is that it's a really bad photo!

Secondly, after seeing that website I'm understanding the confusion a bit better. I saw the real dress on the BBC and under the studio lights it looked very blue, however from the website image it looks like it can catch the sunlight which would explain why I'm seeing it a lot paler in the photo.

It's really interesting how you can see it differently each time you look at it.

It's partly down to lighting, but also the colours around the photo (which is why it can appear differently if you see it on different browsers or websites).

the first time I saw it, it definitely looked a "blue" white and gold, although I suspect that may have been "planted" in my head by, for example, this thread's title. Most of the time I see it as lilac and bronze or sometimes olive.

Sometimes the lower part of the dress appears a grey-blue and black/charcoal (unlike the OP, a lot of the news sites crop the bottom of the photo).

Here are some older optical illusions that work in the same way:

Apparently if you tilt your screen forward and back it changes the colours - it definitely lightens the shades for me but I still can't see white and gold.

I think we should round up and quarantine the white and gold peeps as they're obviously aliens from another planet

Not for me Squiggle - I've got brown eyes and see blue and black

It was white and gold this morning... I just did the tilt screen thing, kept watching and 'caught' it when it was darkest - put the screen back and now it's staying blue and black again.. so I guess I 'unfooled' my eyes.    I know it's something scientific to do with the light that I can't understand, but it's still doing my head in...
