Someone used it in another thread (the word that begins with P) and it caused a bit of an uproar. Now admittedly, when used, it is in deragoratory way and I would never use it....but why?

When you think about 'that word' all it is is an abbreviation of a country where said person may or may not originally come from. It's very much like someone calling me a Brit or an American a Yank, an Australian an Aussie etc.

I know I don't mind being called a Brit nor do I find it offensive, so who deemed that 'other word' as offensive?

Sorry I am trying to be as PC as I can, no offense intended.

Totally and the girl in question has a name and the poster could have used it.

it has very much become a derogatory word used against any person with features or skin colour of people from the whole indian subcontinent, now an indian person may well be offended about been called one but the biggest problem is the stupid skinheads who just label everyone like that a "p" so like the n word is to black people the p word is to those from the subcontinent.

oh and the really stupid thing is its mostly used against BRITISH people who just happen to be descended from those parts.

I think it's more to do with how the word is said, and the ignorance behind the use of the word tbh. Most numpties who say it don't even realise the person who they are aiming it at are actually Indian or Sri Lanken or even Middle Eastern.

An ignorant word used by ignorant muppets tbh.

this very true Nod
nearly twenty odd years or so, someone called me a paki, i am indian/malay, from borneo, and at that time haven't got a clue that it's a deragotary term
