Lori I see you found a temporary fix for the bus stop people but can you ask the PTB to change it back so we can see the proper times of posts pretty please.

I log off the net around 7'ish most nights and usually when I open up of a morning I can see what threads I want to catch up with or what are new threads, going on the time that was on the last post. .so if I look at page two for example anything that hasn't had a post since 7pm means I don't need to read it cos am up to date or wasn't reading it in the first place.. now I have to work out how many hours ago since I last looked in here which is not easy first thing of a morning when I am not really awake..  and not a lot easier later when I am awake after an injection of caffeine..

you know I am always moaning not a fan of the 'improvements' to a non broken template but I get by with all the latest ones. .this time I am finding the lack of proper times really annoying and it's spoiling my forumming.. it may be only a small thing but somehow not knowing exact times of a post makes it feel disconcerting to me for some reason. . don't ask me why tho..

and yeah I know I can HL the hours thing to get an exact time but forumming should be easy not something you have to work hard at .. usually I am just gently scrolling down a page on catch up while supping on a cuppa all nice and relaxed, now I have to work a bit harder..

Olly, I know you don't like change much. (understatement of the year?)

They won't be changing it back, I'm afraid.

However, what page are you on when you are looking at topics?

Because if you are on this page or this page the threads that have comments made since your last visit have the word "new" next to them, on the right. I'm thinkin' it doesn't get any easier than that--you don't even have to know how to tell time!

Lori

Lori tis not that I don't like change it's that I don't like change for changes sake ..like the squidging up of the middle column with the posts in was a bit stupid if you ask me ..but I know you aren't asking me .. it does make me cringe a  bit when I think of all the research I did when I was doing my degree a few yrs back about designing/creating user friendly sites/interfaces being of utmost importance and it seeming to be not the priority for the forum template sometimes..

and I know about the 'new' post thing. .but as an example I may wander off to go do something else then come back and refresh a page and see 'new' posts. . I'd have a vague idea what time I wandered off and I'd use the last reply feature then just scroll up to the time I last looked. .now I have to try and think in terms of how many hours ago did I wander off.  ie I am having to work harder to read a forum and at my age having to use my brain too much is not easy.. I hate that FB does the X number of hours ago thing now tis here as well.. I like to know what actual time someone posted something, could be for example that since their post something has changed. .it just makes it more like hard work to read and I feel weird not know proper times. .can't explain that bit at all tho.. I think I am a gotta know what time it is all the time freak..

Clearly there is not point me waffling about it as it isn't going to change..  but thanks for letting me know. . soon I think there will be one unnecessary change too much for me and I don't think I will bother to stick around. .tis getting on my nerves a bit now.. not your fault I know but I don't see improvements I see someone sitting there with nowt to do going oooh what happens if I fiddle with this...

Moan over. . for now

At the time I'm looking Olly it says you posted 14 minutes ago, if I put my cursor on it it tell me it was posted at 10 :34, If I go away and come back in about half an hour and refresh the page it'll tell me you posted about 44 minutes ago, but if I put my cursor over the time it'll still tell me that you posted at 10:34. So if there are any posts AFTER your post all that needs to be done is put the cursor over the time and it'll show the exact time of the post. I know what you're meaning about 'change for changes sake', but the time issue doesn't seem that great a deal, since you'll be roaming around with the cursor anyway.

P.S. I just look for my avatar, not a time.

P.P.S. If your post was over 1 day ago then it does show the date and time....I think.

P.P.P.S. After some exhaustive research it looks like it has to be over 48 hours age before a post will automatically show as the date and time of posting.

Fluffs  I appreciate your post but I know all that. .twasn't what I was saying anyway. .we all use forums differently. .I tend to sit down and relax to read and rarely move my mouse to 'roam around with my cursor' as you put it,  I just use it to scroll or when on my desktop I use my keyboard which has a scroll wheel on the left hand side and I rarely need to use my mouse except to click to the next page if there is one...  and why should a forum need more work to be read than it needed before... as in more mouse work and now brain work on top

also I don't post in every thread I read in fact I don't post everyday either.. which is why, if I am following a thread and I know what time I last looked in on it, I can find where I was up to a lot easier if the time is on the post instead of it saying X hours ago..  cos then it is no longer a relaxing experience for me it becomes a case of shit I now have to do maths as well before I can carry on reading.. oh and it means I have to move my mouse a lot where I wouldn't have done that before..

Also to you it may not bother you but to me it does. .as I said I am a time freak. .I need a proper time not a 'rough time' .. this morning when I logged on and was still in waking up mode I was thinking oh bugger I now have to work out how many hours is it since I closed down last night ... on FB [which this place seems to be trying to copy in some aspects] it doesn't matter cos I don't really look at the news feeds much anyway as I am usually a day behind and most of the stuff goes on when I've turned my puter off and there's no point joining a feed which finished hours before I see it.. I just play a couple of games on there for the most part, but here it does bother me and it may be irrational  but not knowing the time makes me feel uncomfortable. .  but as it ain't gonna change back once again I have to put up with it . . just wanted to say am not liking it tho which I think is allowed even if I seem to have got a name as a moaner now but I can't think why

awww thanks for letting me moan Lori...

still dunno why  a change from telling us 'what time something happened' to telling us 'how much time has passed since it happened' was doing on a 'to do' list tho

there's loads of other tweaks/problems I could moan about but don't, [hurrah I hear you say ]  but they all add up, like straw on a camels back, to maybe making me more annoyed at ones that bother me more, like the time thing..  or maybe it's cos I am just generally grumpy..

Olly, your moans are a good read and we all (I think) look forward to them. They are often funny, in whole or in part, and if they make us laugh it is certainly not AT you, but at the comical picture they conjure up. I have no idea what it's like on FB (and have no intention of ever finding out) but on here I (even before the display change) would usually just go back looking for my Avitar, as I said. Of course if I was aware my last post was a few days ago then I might skip back a few pages before scrolling.

I realise that we all have our own preferred methods of doing things and If you haven't actually posted in a thread you can't find your place by looking for your avatar. I'll now have to actually THINK what I do under those circumstances.

Also exact methods can differ just because of the browser in use. It's a minefield....HELP!!!

ooooooh cheers Lori... thanks for that. .I didn't want to do a support thread for something like that cos tis a personal preference/weird gotta see the clock freak thing in me..

hope they say yes

I use a thing call coolpreviews .. tis a FF ad-on that means you don't have to open a new tab for each thread unless you want to. .just realised that the hover over thing doesn't work with it so I will be a happy bunny if I can see the proper time in that as well cos tis how I read/glance at a lot of the threads..  I have two clocks in my lounge and am always looking at them.. and my wristwatch  . and the time on the DVD recorder too. in fact not knowing the time makes me feel very unsettled ... I am weird I am

Mount Olympus *Olly*

oooerr. .does it confirm I am bonkers cos I need to know the time all the time and an approximation will not do?

I shall go peruse it at my leisure. .

actually it occurred to me that the current format of time on the board now tells us how much of our life has passed since we last looked at something.. not a problem if you are young as time passing is not an issue, but tis not really something you wanna know if you are an old hag like me and don't wanna be reminded of time passing..

yes it does ... if tis a news story and the news has changed since the time someone posted it does.. but even so it still does matter to me. . it places a thread and it's storyline in a context for me..  so put your rolleyes away and don't be so bluddy rude and judgemental..

am sure you, like all of us, have certain foibles or things that make you feel uncomfortable. .yeah I may be weird about the time thing but it just happens to disconcert me a lot. . it's not like I am starting a whole thread about it or complaining in the support section..  but way to go you for making somebody feel really bad for mentioning something they find uncomfortable. .
