I shall watch it but I'm hoping it's better than The Colour of Magic which was carp loved the Hog Father though
My husband loves the discworld novels and often sniggers and giggles out loud when he's reading them - I just don't "get" them I do like the children's books he's done though ... "Johnny and the Bomb" and "Truckers", "Diggers" and "Wings" I enjoyed a lot - I think they'd make a fab children's tv series like BBC used to do on a Sunday.
The trouble with the televising of Terry's stories is that, like most books, a lot of the detail and nuances are lost when edited for the screen.
Although I did like the Hogfather film, despite the missing bits...
hoochie, have you read "The Carpet People"? I think you'd enjoy it...

I'd quite forgotten about them Isn't it a shame they don't do them anymore?Reference: Sarum

see now that was fatal! I'm going to Devon shortly and thought some audio books would be good for the drive so I went on Amazon (something hubby generally discourages )I've ordered it .... and "Nation" (which has excellent reviews - not a discworld novel.... here is a bit from one of the reviews
"I received the book today and read it in a single sitting - bits of the book are tremendously sad, other bits are tremendously bitter - I do wonder how much of the book is a metaphor for TP's own deeply sad condition. There aren't many laughs in the book, but there is a very touching, emotionally resonant story that at its core is greatly optimistic")
I also ordered "Just a Minute - Best of 2009", "Spine Chillers" by MR James read by Derek Jacobi, "I Claudius" DVD box set and "Yes Minister Vol 1" Lots to look forward to on this break .... except maybe the CC bill!

I have that, it's brilliant.Reference:

I am somewhat biased It was one of my favourites, it should stand alone but there are many related jokes to previous books. For each Pratchett book there is a general theme linked to something in real life. For example "Soul Music" has a lot of jokes that relate to song lyrics and bands if you dont know much about those bands or lyrics you will not get 90% of the jokes the same goes for the one based on Macbeth. In fact he has said he never expect everyone to get all of the jokes and even sometimes people make links when there are none.
However I can see why going postal could leave you a bit meh because unless you have worked in a government like institution like a post office or collected stamps or an interest in economy its not one of his best books. I would read one of his classics like guards guards and see if you like that one more. And if not then he isnt everyones cup of tea.
I thought this was much better done than both Colour of Magic and the Hogfather. Though they leave out most of the jokes which annoys me still but I thought the guy who played Moist got him perfectly as did Claire Foy Ms Dearheart . The main theme email (the clacks) versus traditional post I dont think they put that through very well whilst they all too painfully spelt out Vetinaris subtle moves which was unnecessary IMO. It does somewhat baffle me though for someone who held out against Disney and others for so long they arent up to the quality or as true to the books I would have expected.
Ahh Capt Vimes.Your moniker is from Discworld, for those that don't know.I used to read all the Discworld novels.Well once being a library superviser ,I had the ideal job.Although not a librarian(Ook!) I do have to say, I Iost track over ten years ago,so this one is new to me.SKY + both episodes and will watch them back to back.
How cruel it is that Terry Pratchett is now suffering from Alzheimers.

Yes it is.
Yes its a shame my aunt has it very badly , he is so modest he was shocked that doctors would find an interest in his books after 6 specialists contacted him offering help after he announced it.
It may seem a strange analogy but he is a bit like the Benny Hill of authors. Not that his humour is the same, not at all they couldnt be further apart in that respect. But in the way he is world renowned but without any of the acclaim or awards. I expect they will only realise what they had when he is gone.

Bad analogy. I've never read Pratchett (just doesn't appeal to me) but - dead or alive - I loathe Benny Hill.Reference:

oh I see, that could explain why I was a bit meh! I might give that other one a go, I was left sort of disappointed after Going Postal as everyone seems to rave about him and I just didn't get itAdd Reply
