Absolutely gutted... I know alot of people may not know him here, but when I was growing up playing rugby I always said he was my favourite player and I wanted to be like him on the field. Putting the whole drugs saga to the side... I met him 4-5 years ago after a game against Castleford. F*cking top bloke

You'll have to enlighten us on the drugs saga. Did he have a problem?

The drug issue plus losing his family member recently (a sister if I'm right) may have been enough to tip him over the edge
The drug saga was one of his own making but it's sad when someone feels so bad they take their own life

Only 31 years old. Not even reached the prime of his life. Very sad.
Played for Leeds in 1996-1999
Then came to Wigan from 2000-2005 where he had the best of his career.
Then went to Bradford in 2006-2009
Then signed for Wakefield in 2010
In february he was banned for four years after he failed his drugs test in november 2009.
After that he owned a pub in Wigan, only two weeks ago he was on a sky sports show aswell with Brian Carney who was presenting and is a close friend of him.
Only on Sunday he was found hanged in his home... he committed suicide.
Could tell after he had done it he regret taking drugs, his form went slightly down after he left Wigan and looked extremely depressed on sky two weeks ago. There will be a minute silence at the grand final on saturday between Wigan v St Helens... don't know if people will respect it or boo though. Newton is rated by many as the best hooker to of ever played in super league... whilst St Helens fans probably rate Keiron Cunningham who is to play his final game on saturday before he retires as the best in SL.
