Katie Cutler raised £330,000 for Mr Barnes after he was attacked at home.

Now she's being chased through court over a huge public relations bill.

She says she cannot afford to pay - and Mr Barnes has offered her £10.

The Gateshead pensioner has been abused by trolls over the small sum.

But Ms Cutler hit back, saying he shouldn't have to give her anything at all.

. . . and now the inevitable appears

Disabled mugging victim Alan Barnes has offered just £10 to an indebted woman who raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for him.

The 68-year-old moved into a new home with the money raised for him by Katie Cutler after he was mugged.

Now she is embroiled in a cash crisis over a £6,687 public relations bill from an agency which says it helped her achieve 'blanket coverage' of her cause.

But despite receiving £330,000 in donations from well-wishers after her fundraising campaign, Mr Barnes says he will help her with just a small amount as he does not wish to 'show off'.

He also believes he should not use money given in charity to him to pay off the debt.

The news sparked a furious reaction online from trolls who launched a tirade of abuse at Mr Barnes.

I remember he sold his original house to move away from the area

Has he sold up for a second time?

I read somewhere yesterday he's selling up ....not sure if the report is true though

Well it's certainly not made him a better person , that's for sure

I can't believe that someone received 300 and odd thousand donated by caring people and he refuses to help pay this lady out

Me neither ....I think it's disgusting ! I bet she wishes she hadn't bothered now

Its been argued the money was donated to help 'him' and so shouldn't be spent on others as that's not what the donators expected.

However the money is his to do with as he pleases also - a mere £10 seems minimal to a generous woman who through naivety has found herself in a lot of trouble.

Helping should work both ways me thinks

I agree Renton .....strikes me he's just using that as an excuse for being miserly !

See if he honestly believed the excuse that people donated that money for him then why the offer of £10? surely its the same thing? Either chose to help someone who helped you big time and only needs help as result or don't... The £10 is just insulting tbh

I'm sure I read when this whole thing first started that he had mental health issues......in no way condemming him for that, it could happen to any one of us , but I'm just wondering if he knows how big of an issue this is

Watching interviews with him, he seems quite switched on.

Even though the money was donated by the public to help out Mr Barnes after he was attacked at home following some great fundraising by Katie, I don't think anyone would begrudge Mr Barnes paying the debt for Katie. One good turn deserves another.
