On This Morning programme they just read out an apology from him. He is thoroughly ashamed and doesn't know what he was thinking. apparently he will be seeking help etc.

My brother worked for Soc Services years ago and their head of services was sacked for shoplifting a bottle of vitamins from Boots!!!!

Five offences?   He can show Richard Madeley how it's done...

When I lived in Dublin, the local M+S was terrible for shoplifting little old ladies  It was always the cake aisle

CELEB chef Antony Worrall Thompson has made a grovelling apology after The Sun revealed today that he was arrested for shoplifting cheese and wine at a Tesco store.

The Ready Steady Cook star, 60, said his actions were "stupid". He also said sorry for letting his family down.

Today a statement published on his official website said: "I am so sorry for all my recent stupid and irresponsible actions; I am of course devastated for my family and friends, whom I've let down and will seek the treatment that is clearly needed.

"I am not the first, and I certainly won't be the last person to do something without rhyme or reason — what went through my head, only time will tell.

"Of course, I must also apologise sincerely to Tesco, with whom I've had a long and genuine working relationship, and to all the staff at the Henley branch, many of whom I've got to know over the years.

"Once again, I am so sorry and hopefully in the future I can make amends."

Worrall Thompson's apology comes after he was nicked in front of astonished Tesco customers following five shoplifting episodes in just 16 days.

He's done it 5 times so the staff set up a camera to tape him. Each time it was wine and cheese, so he must have an OCD related thing to wine and cheese as he obviously could afford to pay for the items.

I think he was very clever or lucky to get away with it all those times through the self scans TBH - the ones I use bleep and shout at the slightest hic cup never mind bottles of wine and specially ordered whole cheeses 

He must be really bored imagine being that sad that your thrill is stealing cheese from tesco poor bugger.

Call me cynical but... could it have been to get into the spotlight agaIn? Five offences... he was really asking for it, and he must have known what the consequences would be [that it would be publicised].

I feel very sorry for him, but it just seems so blatant, getting caught four times and continuing on to a fifth offence 

Ready, Steady, Crook has been punned to death already but it does seem pretty apt.

Lady Isobel Barnett was well known on radio back in the 1950s and 60s when she was a regular on What's My Line. She was also a Justice of the Peace. In 1980 she was found guilty of shoplifting for stealing a can of tunas and a carton of cream. She committed suicide 4 days later following the publicity.

I hope Antony Worrall Thompson does seek the treatment which he admits he needs as a matter of urgency.

Antony has had to shut four of his restaurants, perhaps he's been under a lot of strain which can make people do strange things.

I'm not condoning shoplifting, btw.

I always find it odd when a celeb (probably rich) shoplifts.  Why do it?

They should have made him empty his bags and asked him what he was going to make with it
