its a bit O/T but..
my front tooth is hanging out so i went to the dental hospital at 7.00am
theres a queue-when it got to me-they said, 'first 10 only'
i was number 11 Roll Eyes
but i said that my tooth was hanging in there for dear life-so thay said to wait another hour and the nurse would have a look-i did-she eventually came and said 'sorry-we cant help, thats been hanging out for ages'-it hasnt-its been from saturday
so-i cant afford a dentist-its gonna cost me hundreds-dental hospital wont look after me-my tooth is hanging out-i look like cardrew robinson (older FMs will know who i mean)
ive got an appoinment tomorrow-ÂĢ38.00 before i even explain the problem
so who can tell me-when did we turn into a third world country?
or am i just moaning too much-even though me front tooth is doing a balancing act

If you are not exempt from charges, you should pay one of the following charges for each course of treatment you receive:
Band 1 course of treatment – ÂĢ16.50
This covers an examination, diagnosis (e.g. X-rays), advice on how to prevent future problems, a scale and polish if needed and application of fluoride varnish or fissure sealants. If you require urgent care, even if your urgent treatment needs more than one appointment to complete, you will only need to pay one Band 1 charge.
Band 2 course of treatment – ÂĢ45.60
This covers everything listed in Band 1 above, plus any further treatment such as fillings, root canal work or if your dentist needs to take out one or more of your teeth.
Band 3 course of treatment – ÂĢ198.00
This covers everything listed in Bands 1 and 2 above, plus crowns, dentures or bridges

Just copied this from the NHS website. Hope it helps

I thought we paid in for a National Health Service "free at the point of delivery"? Can someone tell me just when did the goalposts get moved?

Surely the dental hospital has students who do bridges and stuff for free(closely supervised and experience appropriate). That's if it's a teaching hospital. Go back, say you don't have an NHS dentist and can't afford it anyway. Cry a bit. Try again. Good luck.

I've been with Denplan for years - I pay about ÂĢ15 per month but it covers me for check-ups, scale and polish with the hygienist, fillings and xrays when I need them.

Although things like bridges and crowns are not covered per se, I only pay half price on top. It might be worth looking for one of these plans - I'm sure there are other companies who probably do it competitively then you could have teef like mine --------> Big Grin

Eeker Nooooo, don't pull ...grit you're teeth together, to keep it in...I read somewhere that if you lose a tooth and keep it in milk they can put it back in...(tho what that has got to do with you're predicament I don't know)

OP - Ring your PCT Office.... tell them what you posted.

They are obligated to find you an NHS dentist, and quickly if you have a current problem.

I don't know if this is common to all PCT's but the one I used to work for even had its own Dentist and Dental Room.... it was used for special cases such as children with dentist phobias, and for the Learning Disability clients. In the PCT I worked for, we would probably have 'slipped' you in with her for your initial treatment.

Dental hospital is not what it once was (well the Manchester one isn't). Took me a 3 day battle to get them to see to my son, who was petrified to go to the dentist (he had a bad experience with a long rooted milk tooth, no anysthetic(sp), lots of screaming). They were brilliant once they decided to treat him, could have done without the 3 sleepless nights.

i sneezed-the bastard thing flew out!
i caught it, put it in milk, phoned the nearest 24 hour dentist-the girl said 'its between ÂĢ10 and ÂĢ95 to come up'
i said i hadnt got that dosh on me-she said 'we cant help'
at least i had no blood-i would have fainted!

how come this country is so crap at dentistry?

maaaaaaaaan, ive paid my taxes and no f*cker will help-whats going on?

ooohh... ermmm, I am not doubting that is what you were told. BUT, the PCT has an obligation to get emergency access for all NHS patients who do not have an NHS dentist, and are suffering from Dental Pain.

Ring them again, ask to speak to their complaints department!

Oh bless!!! I'd cry too! In fact I would be distraught!

As its now... in the glass, I dunno if you'll be classed as an emergency now, but if I was you I would still try. You could throw in a sentence along the lines of "if I had been given the care I am entitled to when I first asked, my tooth could have been saved".

Its a real long shot, but you might just scare them into sorting you a crown, on the cheap, and quickly!
