I'm fick but my brainy brother tells me stuff

Even I know that one! When I worked in the testosterone world of banking in the City of London, that's what the blokey blokes would press when I walked past them and they were looking at porn.

My children don't come anywhere near my laptop! I made that mistake before when one of my boys downloaded some innocent looking Dr. Who game years ago and it caused all manner of problems. The older two have their own laptops and an old desktop that takes about a week to switch on. They can all also fiddle about with their father's Apple Mac collection under his supervision.

Google Chrome .......hopefully new lappy for my birthday on Monday ...........failing that it'll be Christmas. Then - all will be well .............................for a little while at least.

As pirate says, when you 'delete' stuff you haven't really deleated it from your computer, you have just 'hidden' it from the bit of software that locates and starts up your programs.

Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing

I dunno how to word this and didn't want to start another fred.

I need some software help please...........anyone?

As some of you might know I've recently bought a new lappy. I have Microsoft Office 2010 (three user version) installed on my old one. I need to transfer it to my new lappy. Looking around on the net it looks like I can do this, but I have to uninstall from my old lappy first. OK, no problem, but what happens to the files that I have on my old lappy please? how do I transfer them as I don't have the programme on my old lappy any more

Edit....ah, I've just thought.......do I mail them to myself first?

Yes Sprout emailing them to yourself is a a good idea. Or save them on a usb stick or sd card and work it out what program to use later?

I used to work for a large firm and In the latter days, as the wheels came off, senior management went with all of those daft quality auditing, Investors in People bobbins.
However the last one of all was called "The European Computer Driving Licence" or something along those lines. Obviously it didn't really exist. The rest of Europe seemed unaware and no-one knew whether it was something claimable against tax or whatever. Yet I learnt more from the course than one might imagine. If you ever see the accompanying book then get it! Very straightforward easy to understand material.

My sister did that too. She found it useful.

I did it a few years ago - passed with flying colours - but that's 'cos I knew most of the stuff already. I did it so that I had a piece of paper to prove that I knew about computing, as opposed to learning how to compute.

Fine thanks Rog. Downloaded the manual from the internet and that has clarified a few points. However I found most of it reasonably easy to get to grips with, without specific direction. Was posting from it most of the other evening as the MiL was listening to TV in the room where the PC is, and the sound was far too loud for me.

Ta Fluffy  Also could you give me your thoughts on the following please?

If I was going to get a tablet, it would probably be the Hudl because apparently its quite sturdy/childproof + I'm terrible for dropping + breaking things

What do you think of the build? Good and solid? I wouldn't want one of those glossy brittle things, it won't last long!

I've never used Android OS - is surfing on it just like normal Windows? [Sorry to be so fick... ].

Also, what do you use for a keyboard? doesn't an onscreen one take up most of the screen especially on the 7" model?

I think I might go for the 10" as a 7" screen seems awfully small .. how do you read from it?

Sorry for all these questions

FM

Don't feel embarrassed for asking questions,

It is quite sturdy. Just about first thing I did was drop it! It's working fine. I would recommend getting the case for it though as it doubles as a stand. It's a separate purchase, but Tesco sell it too.

I find the surfing is pretty much the same as normal windows. The look is marginally different, but hardly noticible. Also it has Google Chrome pre-loaded in it.

Yes, the on-screen keyboard takes up about half of the screen. I certainly wouldn't advocate it for speedy typing but is OK for non-speedy stuff. As you type and go onto a new line the screen 'behind' the keyboard automatically moves up. I think the keyboard on the 10" will also take up half the screen - just that each 'key' will be fractionally larger!

Reading from the screen - You can zoom in and out of the screen, so you can get it to a comfortable size to suit. Of course, the more you 'zoom in', the more you will need to scroll across the page in order to see everything.

Scrolling is done with a light flick of the finger. The harder you 'flick' the farther the page 'moves'.

Tesco Clubcard vouchers are worth double [until 20th Dec] if you put them towards a Hudl. So you could buy one for ÂĢ60  I'm absolutely kicking myself for spending my vouchers in my last delivery now

Next lot of vouchers come in november though. So unless you've not been buying anything much you'll still be able to get at least something towards the price.

Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you.

It depends on the type of laptop you are using but one of these may help.

Try right clicking on the desktop screen and see if there is an option to change the orientation (might be through Screen Resolution or might be through Properties - screen resolution) from the menu shown.

If that doesn't work try Ctrl Alt and one of the arrow keys at the same time.

I saw that online El as per below but was wary of posting it as, I am no expert on these things and I didn't want to make things worse for Sooz

"Click and hold down both the ALT and CTRL keys at the same time, then use the "ARROW" keypad to rotate the screen."
