So i'm trying to back up my lappy onto an external USB

However its says it has failed due to the following,

"Back up failed while trying to readfrom the shadow copy on one of the volumes being backed up. Check in the events log for any relevant errors"

So i looked in the events log and it is totally confusing in there

Any ideas?

Saint, if you were trying to back up specific folders you had selected such as My Documents, I would not have expected such a failure notice.

If you were trying to back up everything then such a failure notice would be more likely.

A Google search on the problem shows that sorting this out is complicated. I suggest you try to back up the folders you want on a one by one basis and/or ask a computer repair engineer to do the back up for you before starting to repair your laptop.

I agree. I have separate folders for photos, music, and docs. They get backed up. The rest doesn't really matter. Mrs Jer has to back up correspondence which is more complex.

The log was totally confusing and told me nothing i could understand
