I just googled for a problem about my Virgin V+ box... as soon as I clicked on the link it looked kosher but then it told me it was scanning me for bugs. Told me I had loads, and I couldn't shut the link without shutting down. That wouldn't happen on a real site would it? And if not, how much info could they get from my comp in the space of a minute or so? Gotta go to bed soon, but advice dearly appreciated!

Not to good on this sort of things, but I wouldn't have thought that sounded right to me...... and think I have read about something similar before. Hope someone can tell you.

they want you to pay for software to get rid when there's prolly none at all.

Yeah... I'd had this happened once before on Mac Safari with Virgin, and I'm sure I pressed any button they provided before I panicked.

So I don't think I agreed to anything, but when it shows it's scanning and comes up with a result in a few seconds, you do wonder if it's true or not so I may have clicked one or two!

No matter, I'm always being assured how secure Macs are!

Hi Xochi, just been off finding the link to that thread.
I'm not too bad at the moment thanks. You good too? Apart from the scammers.

I'm tending these days to drop the odd comment here and there between doing stuff in RL, so am fairly hard to catch, but a PM or message in the bar should usually get me eventually if my presence is more urgently required.

If memory serves, Scotty was told that these scams are time delimited(usually a couple of weeks) so you cam either wait 'til it 'RUNS OUT' or reset your clock for about 2 to 3 weeks ahead, then you should have by-passed the scam-stuff and function as normal.
