The avatar that you've got just now is it from their selection of pre set avatars?

I'll tell ya what's a mystery! How one of my own pix ever managed to end up as an Avatar, as that was no bother at all! *mutter* *mutter*, and now that same piccy is stuck like glue. :shakeshead:

Which option have you got selected? URL or upload avatar?

Hi Fluffy, that's what I was saying re a mystery....that castle and river pic is one of mine. Well, when I say mine, I got it originally from a site around Christmas time or New year, something like that, and used it as wallpaper, and no bother about that. Now it's stuck fast as an Avatar.

it's dimensions are 48 X 42

This may be a bit daft but, are you sure you've copied the URL from my image?

Yep, in both ways and although I was told it was saved, it never surfaced, as I tested in verious Threads and nothing new happened, then my computer froze and I had to get out, then rebooted, came came back in and still no new piccy. Mystery! Thanks for your help though.

Fluffy, or Tatty, I need the Techy people as my Profile stuff is up the creek!

Using Vista laptop, and tried to get Fluffy's Avatar in, but it doesn't work.

When I pasted the URL of Fluffy's piccy into the URL box of Your Custom Avatar option, I got this message: The provided URL does not appear to be accessible......

So then ticked Upload Custom Avatar option, and pasted the URL into the box, then clicked Update Avatar Button......and nothing happened, nothing at all!

I'd still be sitting here if I hadn't moved to do something, which was to...wait for it...go to the options and ticked NO Avatar. I saw a flash for a second.....then nothing.

The Castle and water Piccy wasn't going anywhere at all.


Closed the Profile area, came out to this Thread and there the Castle and water, when it shouldn't be there!


I can't get rid of it at all. Vista is great at telling what isn't compatible, unlike XP!


If it can't be sorted then I'm stuck with a castle and river for ever. -sigh-

Go to your avatar section and delete anything that's in any of the avatat selection boxes then 'update avatar' and submit, Does that remove the castle pic?

Did you remember to click on submit first and did you get the message saying your profile has been updated?
If you didn't get the update message then that is why nothing has changed.

Hiya Fluffy, just got back in after trying to get in....and saw that the castle/water piccy was replaced by a RED X. Did as you suggested to my Profile, edit and deleted all the urls in the box.

The er Red X remained though, and see that your Avatar is also a Red X. Oh, am back to the regular computer, which I feel like bouncing all the way down the stairs. :nod-

Oh, if I refresh then this site vanishes, so not going to do that....

I did think to try using your piccy again....seeing I have a red X.

Just discovered that after I posted this I got an error, but when I got here in again, I saw you have your own Avatar is working condition, and my Red X is longer there....unsure if I should jump for joy, as I might not be able to post either! Testing posting! 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0.... here goes.

As you can see I'm getting the pic in my Avatar ok.

After playing around in your avatar section when you come back everything will be the same but it should all change when you next post assuming you got the 'update' message.

It sorted of worked, for one minute the red X wasn't there, then it was there. Yes it did say my profile was updated after I changed the picture, the first time, and 2nd time, but Castle and water remained. Duh! Submt button vanished a few times, and once in the Laptop......spooky.


Maybe I'll keep the Red X..as it's different.

On my screen it is also showing thre red cross and says 'Pict of apri' in tiny letters.
When you go into your profile is it showing a picture, a red cross or nothing next to the word EDIT?

Apricot, on my screen your avitar is now showing as the island and water, same as mine.

Hiya Fluffy, guess what your lovely watery scene has become my Avatar in Profile, appeared like Magic. I just looked at everything again and pressed a couple of buttons one at a time, and it appeared. spookie....Hope after I post this it will show up and if it does I ain't moving it ever again.

God, it worked.....falls over.

Can't believe what an evening it's been, but glad Fluffy was here to help out, and my regular comp has had it, with hub saying he'll get me another one. Right, will see when we get to PC World.

Time I was off as it's dentist's day tomorrow.

Fluffy helped me out too apricot. I just couldn't organise my coloured hearts but she was extremely patient and guided me all the way through.

I just need to find out how to cancel this notification thingy now too though.

I clicked on notifications the other day and now, whenever I post on a thread, I get loads of emails telling me there have been further additions to each thread I've posted on and by whom!

I've tried deleting everything in 'notifications' but it still keeps happening!

The only way I can avoid it is by clicking on the red flag which appears when I reply to a post and cancel the box which comes up stating 'immediate notification by email'.

I've tried every which way so, if someone can help with how to delete these notifications, I'd be grateful.

I have checked out the 'help' section regarding the same but it hasn't helped.

You can sort your notifications in two ways. Globally, or forum by forum.

GO>Personal zone>Notifications.
Here you will see two sections. One for Personal Messages and the other for forums.

In the FORUMS section click edit. in the new window that opens un-check all the boxes and click Update notifications.
You should now get a message to say your notifications have been updated and you should automatically return to the page with the two choices. In the forums section under the heading DELIVERY there should now be no red flag. You will now stop being flooded with e-mails.

Sorry for not replying, but just spotted it, and at present can't remember what happened, and on Laptop for now.

Was thinking we could play cards here. ON XP you could, as on the laptop I pressed alt and 1 and all the fonts shrunk! lol! hahahaha!

On a serious note, for a mo, you know where it says Add Attachment? does that mean I can add a piccy into a post that way? I did press Add Attachment and copied the piccy's data there, but as it only showed its folder then I thought you may get all the piccies from that Folder, and only wanted to do one, so stopped dealing with Add Attachment, until I was sure.

OK, right click the avatar and copy it's URL. If you get anoption after right clicking to copy image address, then do that otherwise click on Preferences and highlight and copy the address.
Open a reply box and click on the wee greenish icon second from right on the top row. Paste the URL in there and click ok then post. A copy of the pic should now be in your post.

Thanks Fluffy but I did all that yesterday and the day before but it didn't work.

Just tried it again but, again, no good. I've still got the red flag at the bottom of this reply box so I'll have to click on it to get rid of it. It's only the email section which still remains ticked.

Just cannot understand how I managed to get rid of the other two boxes but not that one!!

I'm perplexed.

I had to go last Monday as one of my fillings came out but was so relieved when it was over. I hate the dentist. Well, I don't hate my dentist himself 'cos he's lovely - just don't like the noise of the drill etc.

Sounds to me like you've still got it switched on in the main preferences somehow
