My contract for landline and broadband is up and I have just been on Talk Talk's website/forum which seems full of unhappy customers re their service. I also remember people complaining about them on here.
Must admit that I'm not v good at being bothered to compare prices/deals etc. the money just comes out of the bank every month! Blush Had a look and their current rate is less than half of what I've been paying, i.e. ÂĢ36.24 per month plus calls, now ÂĢ17.74.
So, should I renew? Or would people recommend someone else?
PS No cable in my village so that's not an option
PPS As I don't get much of a signal on my mobile where I live I seem to spend a small fortune on calling mobile no's from my landline as these aren't included in the tariff

If you have run out of contract then you'd been in a contract for 18months? Did you take BB and landline all at once?

That sounds libellous. I suppose I ought to add that this is in my personal experience and other people's experience may vary. Smiler

I wouldn't touch Talk Talk with a bargepole. As I said here the other day, we have always used Tiscali and never had a problem until a few months back. Now it's a nightmare, lots of irritating minor type probs.
Then I discovered it had been taken over by talk talk - explains it all really.
I have never heard of anyone who is happy with them

I'm with Tiscali and after a hic-up in the beginning, I'm really happy with them. I pay ÂĢ24 per month plus VAT, nothing for calls other than mobiles and premium. My monthly bill is usually between ÂĢ30 and ÂĢ35. Smiler

Edit. Just saw veggie's post. I didn't even know that. Blush No problems though. Smiler

Yes, remember being p'd off at how long it took when I switched from BT and that I was without internet for a month. My phone bills are pretty high, but don't know how that compares to other companies. TBH I only looked into it because I was just trying to install a wireless router that wouldn't work and realised that you get one free with most deals these days.

I never have contacted them Blush Just don't seem to get around to it. They did call me about 3 months or so ago when my contract ran out but I was too busy to talk and they didn't call back, so I've just continued with the current rate. My high bills are for calling UK mobiles and calling my sisters who live abroad on their mobiles via phonecheap -only costs 8p a min but soon adds up when you're on for hours! Laugh Neither of them have an internet connection at the moment so can't do it through Skype etc.

You'll get through to normal customer services, they can't do anything for you really so ask to be put through to Retentions.

When you get through to these (either in Preston or Northampton) just say that you are coming out of contract and that you've been looking around at better deals (quote a few prices, even if they are fake, but keep them realistic) - say you need a router and that your bills are really high (they'll prob put you on a cheaper plan and give you the router but re-sign you back into a contract, ask for a 12 month and not an 18 month)

Just be lovely and normal, most of the agents are customer focused and will be delighted to help you ... there are a few bad eggs ( i am trying to sack them !!) but if you dont like what your hearing hang up and start again!

Hope this helps .. as i said if you have no trouble with them then its unlikely you will have in the future xx

Dunno about the phone service, but if it's just as amateur, I wouldn't want anything to do with it.

No probs with my broadband speed or phoneline I have to say- do these things depend on your postcode?

there are 'boosts' you can add to give you discounts for the mobile calls - mobile extra is 45p a month and gives you like 25% off all mobile calls... there's also something you can add for intl stuff but am not too sure on this, do ask though!

I agree - found BT better than talk talk by far - had loads of hassle with them - changing our internet from bt to TT virtually without our permission but one time ,however, when the line was faulty and an engineer had to come out - they charged us ÂĢ 150.00 - I only had it returned because I could prove it was BT'S line rather than our fault - so very true what you say . It is,however, the best internet I have had

I quite enjoy playing with 'retention staff'. I dunno if they have performance targets but they take their job very seriously, it seems. When I tried to terminate my broadband account with BT to switch providers, it was like I was asking for a divorce. One lied to me and said there was a termination fee despite being out of the minimum contract, so I put the phone down. The next one said there was a computer problem all afternoon and could I call back the following day. The next one, 2 minutes later, hadn't heard of any computer problem but tried all sorts to persuade me to stay, including offering a special deal of ÂĢ12 a month to O2's ÂĢ7.34 and asking if that made me happy. When I said, why would it if it's more expensive, she disconnected the call before cancelling the contract. The next one said she didn't know how to do it and couldn't forward my call. The final one finally agreed to do it when I went into 'broken record' mode: "I hear what your saying but I want to cancel. Yes, I hear that and I'm not discussing it. Please cancel it. No, I'm not interested in any of that, cancel." Laugh

the 45p mobile extra not avaiable on my TT plan, mobile boost was 4.00, reducing to 2.00 soon & that gives you half price mobiles ... i also work for TT Big Grin

Don't fork out extra for so called high speed broadband from any company.I had a BT engineer out when my phone broke down and he tested my broadband for me,under 2 Mg.He stated this was the average because it depends how far you are from the exchange.
My phone is with BT,ordinary basic landline, about ÂĢ34.oo a quarter line rental, calls vary between ÂĢ20.00-ÂĢ30.00 a quarter,My broadband is with Orange ÂĢ17.99 a month.Never had any problems with them.

Took it back and had such a palaver, he said I'd signed the contract and that was that, became v rude and even swore at me Eeker Eventually after loads of carry on and speaking to several more senior staff they cancelled. BTW don't think I can get sky here- going to ring TT this afternoon and see what deal I can get as there don't seem too many other options for me

I have my Broadband with O2, I have an O2 PAYG phone (spare as my contract one is Vodafone) that I top up ÂĢ10 every 3 months, if I top it up that much I get my Broadband for ÂĢ7.34 a month at the moment...Thumbs Up

It comes in handy having a PAYG phone when I go abroad as I can keep track of what I'm spending in texts....simples...Big Grin

I do think it depends where you are as to what coverage each provider has given - all ISP's and mobile phone's have good and bad comments if you read a few general forums.
Orange is supposed to be the pits but .... we have no problems at all ....... I have BB with them , my line was took over by them last year and because we had a contracted mobile phone as well a discount was given.

I pay less than ÂĢ20 per month which covers, line rental, BB and all calls are included

Yesterday the mobile contract was up/down graded as I was out of contract and have managed a deal from ÂĢ35 per month to ÂĢ9.75 for 18 months ..... well happy with this as the contract covers unlimited land line calls as well ...... I did haggle I grant you but never had to threaten to terminate despite finally getting this through to retention dept.

When I still had my line with BT they did extensive tests and tweeked as much as they could but I am right at the end of a very long line and manage 3 connections off it although we only pick up 512 speed ...... criminal in this day and age but far better than the old dial up any day
MrsH
I was with AOL, never again!!, but now have BT Broadband and BT Landline and have no problems really with either, speeds are quicker than with AOL and much, much less hassle.

Did have a few problems Friday, but that was due to high winds in the area and it was soon sorted once I rebooted my modem.

I have 02 PAYG as well and find that has really good countrywide coverage as well, places I have not been aboe to use my T Mobile phone in the past, I have been able to use my 02 phone.

I would look for Broadband in my area, google it...it should show you thr best deals and packages. I would never deal with Craphone again. I'd had been with AOL 12 years and not had a problem until they took over, and because I had moved house and changed my address they had tied me into another 18 months contract without telling me. Then they moved us onto the Talk Talk server and things went rapidly downhill from there Mad

Have I mentioned how pants o2 are if the underlying ADSL line is noisy? They're happy to fiddle with noise margins forever until you're bored ringing them up. I was down to 34 kb/s at one point. That time, I rang and the 'technical' support umm-ed a bit and then exclaimed "there you go I've fixed it for you", meaning he'd just reset the connection once until the next bout of prolonged noise knocked it down again. These people take you for fools half the time. One of them denied there had even been any disconnections during line monitoring until I pointed out their Thomson modems had stats on them which I was looking at and it showed 15 in the last 24 hours. What a tosser.
FM
RESULT! Got a better offer from BT, then called TT back and spoke to a different chap in retentions and he reduced it to ÂĢ21.74! ÂĢ15 cheaper than I've been paying and all calls apart from international and mobile free. Also added ÂĢ4 'boost' to get half price calls to mobiles which will save me a fortune! Will have to do it all again in 3months as it's a temporary thing to see if free BB comes to my area but hey ho!
