Awwww, but what if you gave her a big surprise, something that she would really love? Something unexpected? Or visa versa?

I'm predicting that you'll say that doesn't play a part in your lives.... For me, I love thinking of something 'different' that will bring a smile to my loved ones faces

I get no sense of that, I imagine you both revel in your shared thriftiness. What I most like about Christmas is the joy and excitement of children. Why nyd for you then?

Thriftiness? I wish my Dad was still alive to hear that! "Generous Joe" and "scattercash" were amongst the terms he used to describe me. He could never understand that I would travel to The Fatherland for a weekend just to watch a game. Our travelling around the country to see bands also surprised him. Children? The "other side" last year decided to use them as a Christmas weapon, and life is too short, and we are too old to become involved in that sort of shieght.

Make sure you visit Reid & Sons jewellers near Greys monument, they give you champagne when you sit down to look at items.  Also pay a visit to Popolo's at the bottom of Pilgrim St just off Swan house roundabout.  Best cocktails in town.

Do you think they'll notice our fondness for champagne but zero tolerance for bling?

After a few years of looking I found my ideal cocktail at the Hafen Hotel in Hamburg. A Prince of Wales!

Well just make appropriate noises when looking at the bling while enjoying the free bubbly.  So what's in a Prince of Wales.  My favourite at the moment is a Violet Martini, just pipping the Polish Martini.

Are your parents the judges? It'll all end in tears you know that don't you?

Not a great way to start Christmas
