My local Tescos is only shut on Christmas Day. It closes 6pm on Christmas Eve and opens again at 9am on Boxing Day. How are people going to cope with the shops shut during that time?! It's a nightmare! They need to fill every possible cupboard with food!
That's why I can never shop too close to Christmas. I get hysterical seeing EVERYBODY filling there trolly(ies) to the gunnels. Now I am quite prepared to accept that SOME people regularly shop for a month at a time and that other people have large families and need to buy in large quantitiesand so these large shopping trips will, from time to time, coincide with Christmas/New Year, But when you see a shop filled with several hundred customers and they ALL have one or more deep trollies filled to overflowing with enough stuff each to stock a small shop, you KNOW they aren't all coincidentally the 'once-a-month' shoppers.
Often it's the type of stuff that's in the trollies that's a dead giveaway.
I was in Tesco's today. I bought:- 5 packets of sugar free jelly, 2 packets of paracetamol, 2 packets of bacon, 1 pack of choc chip muffins and a pack of cinnamon whirls and 2 packs of fancy biscuits. I was then contemplating the best part of an hour in a check-out queue, but then the nice gentleman behind me spotted them opening a new till and pointed me in that direction.
