But the Supermarkets do give us a choice as to whether we buy Halal or Kosher or whatever we want.

This seems like a really odd thing to do, I mean, the whole point of meat that's halal or kosher is that people know its halal/kosher so they know they can buy it. If it's just in normal non-labelled packaging a strict muslim isn't going to buy it because they will assume it's not halal, same as we would! The only thing I can think of is that they have surplus of the halal, and they just bung it into normal packaging so it doesn't go to waste and they don't lose money 
Money talks not religion - as soon as they are hit in the pocket, 'trial areas' will revert to the norm and all will be as if it never happened
