Looks like they don't!

Supermarkets and restaurant chains are selling halal meat to millions of customers without telling them.

The switch to slaughtering animals in line with Islamic ritual saves money because the end product can be eaten by Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

More than 70 per cent of all New Zealand lamb in supermarkets is from halal abattoirs – a fact not stated on labelling. Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Waitrose and Marks & Spencer all confirmed yesterday they sell the imported meat.

This seems like a really odd thing to do, I mean, the whole point of meat that's halal or kosher is that people know its halal/kosher so they know they can buy it. If it's just in normal non-labelled packaging a strict muslim isn't going to buy it because they will assume it's not halal, same as we would! The only thing I can think of is that they have surplus of the halal, and they just bung it into normal packaging so it doesn't go to waste and they don't lose money

I was thinking that, judging by the reaction online, Subway are going to lose business because of this, so maybe they will revert to normal. I have noticed a new advert on TV recently for their breakfast bacon sub

It's not an issue, we don't mind Halal or non-Halal!
However, yesterday we were back in my home area and driving past loads of free range pigs. You'll see them from the train in huge fields with their little corrugated iron sheds.
Yet near our cycle route they keep pigs imprisoned where they never see the light of day. This sort of thing annoys me more. (See also hens)

The slaughter methods are much the same, it's only about 2% of meat from Halal abattoirs that is not pre stunned, the only difference for the other 98% is that a prayer recited  over each animal.

Never been an issue for me, if I was genuinely concerned  for the well being of the animal I was eating, I'd be a vegetarian.

I've sought out Halal butchers  before as they trim all the fat and sinew off  lamb joints before they sell it, so  you get a much better product when it comes to lamb.
