Our advent calender never had chocolates. I can't believe how excited we used to get over a picture of a Robin or a Christmas Cracker. I used to love it when it was my turn to open the window before going to bed, I hate the souless chocolate ones and a few years ago I tried to instil the same sort of excitement into my grand son and bought one without chocs.

He couldn't see the point at all

Ours didn't have chocolates in them.

Kids these days don't know how tough it was in the 1970's world of chocolateless advent calendars.

Or in the 1960's

Indeed!!

It did get exciting though, opening up all those doors knowing that on the 24th it would be a nativity picture, and then it was CHR***MAS!!!!!

yep - I loved the ones with the pictures - chocolate's just not the same.   I remember the excitement of the year the 24th was a DOUBLE door!

We were so easily pleased in the old days.

Gonna have to send some PMs now so that I can contact people when..I...want and not when I have to pay for it

Too late Cagney, we can't send any new PMs any more, unless we upgrade to VIP status.

You can add posts to any PMs you still have.

I'm too late. That's shocking. If a forum can't provide the facility of private PMs without funding then maybe it's time for a crisis meeting. How much money can it take to run a website like this? If it costs a lot then as a percentage how much does PMing take up? Calculate that cost against the possiblity of losing members. Members who could possibly click on the advertising you depend on.

My guess is this part of the site is relatively small and other parts will happily pay to be here. Parts most here never venture to.

This is a small forum with quite a close knit membership but there are still things that people like to talk about in private...eg...me and Suzybean sharing pregnancy stories.

I get the feeling making members mods was the first step to detaching the BB forum from the rest of the site. The first step to getting rid of something nobody can be bothered with anymore.....and by nobody I mean the owners of the site.

I noticed Yogi

Had to go change a nappy so took ages to reply.

I know I don't log in much so it probably won't affect me as much but this is bordering on ridiculous.

Cagney

I must admit that I am worried about all this Cagney.

It seems to me that Seattle welcomed us with open arms, an already established community is marketing gold. We were a bit troublesome at the beginning (I bet they would describe us worse than that), then, when we calmed down they tried to integrate us with the US forums. That didn't work. Then they shoved us over here, and threw advertising at us. Presumably that hasn't worked. They can't work out a way of monetising us.

I agree that, in the great scheme of running a forum how much does a pm cost? This, my friends, is the beginning of the end.  You read it here first

Isn't the saying "there's no sentiment in business"?

I'm sure the prospect of a few hundred new members appealed back then.

I agree...in a way. I felt it was the beginning of the end when they appointed members as Mods. Fend for yourselves kinda thing. We'll step in when we can be bothered but until then you're on your own.

From a business point of view it's a disaster waiting to happen. Invite custom then alienate them slowly.

Anyway.....what's next?

Can someone pass on where we're moving to next please?

I was just about to ask you if 'Dave' (my name for him) had moved in yet?

So pleased he's there and fitting in nicely.

Dave was just visiting.  He moves in next week. I've got a wee snuggly bed for him set up right beside my chair. His wee baby boy toys, his wee baby boy bowls, his wee baby boy blankie are all here waiting for him. Did I say he was my wee baby boy btw?

I hate beer and lager but I'd like to like it because it's the only thing that's ever left in the fridge when I fancy a drink and there's nothing nice here.

Awww.         I usually drink Carling but I bought a big bottle of Stella tonight and it's nice
