Joe, I wish my stop there had been for different reasons, as I've found loads of my ancestry in that area. But when you were passing, the roundabout with the old pub that is now a Indian restaurant and the Total garage opposite, that's where I've had to leave the car.

Your (and Cinds) post has reminded me to order the Trophies for Mr Woo's golfing holiday in June. A gang of them from Thirsk started going on a golfing trip to Lancaster about 45 years ago .................Mr Woo started going about 31 years ago - a lot of the old boys are dead now - lots of new faces and Mr Woo who was once the 'young gun' is now the organiser.

 

Fox.s Trophies/engravers in Thirsk have always done the cups and medals although I don't think there is anyone left from Thirsk who goes (nearest one id from York) the rest are scattered all around the country and one from France. The trophies are delivered ....maybe this year we'll take a trip to pick them up - Mr Woo used to go to school with the owner (it was his father's business before him).

Yes the garage used to be Tony Earnshaw's. He worked with my Dad before he took on the garage. You won 't be old enough to remember the old 45's, copies of hit discs, recorded by other people, and given away with so many gallons. That was the nearest participating garage to our house.
The Indian used to be a pub, The Busby Stoop, which had a cursed chair which only the very foolish would sit in. On the other side of the road is the Old Skipton aerodrome populated during the war by desirable Canadian officers, who attracted many local women, including my Mum. There have been a few reunions over the years.
More importantly a couple of miles up the road you can buy Austin Reed clothing at knockdown prices. I probably haven't mentioned it, but we have been there the last two Sundays to buy various items including a couple of pairs of fine cords.

I can also now reveal that a couple of miles due south of Busby Stoop is the Crab & Lobster sea filth restaurant. This is where Supes and her rich list chums eat.

EC it's my new nicest addiction

I can't cope with my kids getting older!  I've just got up to do some dishes but noticed a kerfuffle in the little bit of field across from my house.  A group of about 20 kids aged around 12-15 were gathered round while 2 of them beat lumps out of each other.  I saw my youngest standing watching so went to call him over and noticed a neighbour thankfully going to break it up.  It just made me realise that one day I'll look out and see one of my son's doing the fighting and I ended up in tears in the hallway after telling the youngest to stay away from them.  I'll get done for beating up a kid 'coz there's no way I could see that happening to my son and not go over there like a bull in a china shop.
