Brilliant Yogi. Charlie & The Chocolate Factory was fab. The children that were there loved it, and it just threw the adults right back in to their childhood, I really would highly recommend. After the show on Friday we ambled in to Covent Garden for a couple of drinks then took a rickshaw back to the hotel, I swear I haven't laughed so much in ages. The rickshaw had disco lights and music going on, it was hilarious.
Then yesterday, we decided to go all touristy and did an open top bus tour, which we thoroughly enjoyed. If we'd done it walking we would never have seen so much stuff and might have walked past some of the little hidden gems. Last night we wandered in to Soho and had a lovely meal, after which we were just so stuffed we just went back to the hotel and went to bed. Hardcore
The only thing that kind of put a 'damper' on the weekend was when we got the bill for last nights meal there was a 12.5% service charge included in the total. Not a problem, but just out of curiousity Mr C asked the girl serving us if it was optional, which she said it was, but he then asked 'but you do get the tip don't you'.
She said she didn't, because the restaurant owner said it was something to do with taxes etc. So we asked her that if we asked for it to be removed from the bill and left it as a cash tip would that be better for her. She said that even then, the owner would take it off her towards the service charge we hadn't paid on the bill. I then asked her, "so the only way you see any of it is if we pay the service charge added to the bill and then leave you some cash?" Apparently even then she wouldn't necessarily get it as, if another table had opted out of the service charge (even if she hadn't been serving them) that cash we left would then go towards their service charge.
I'm not in the restaurant business, but surely that's not right? In my opinion a service charge or tip should go to the person serving you, as an appreciation of their service.
