Brilliant Yogi.  Charlie & The Chocolate Factory was fab.  The children that were there loved it, and it just threw the adults right back in to their childhood, I really would highly recommend. After the show on Friday we ambled in to Covent Garden for a couple of drinks then took a rickshaw back to the hotel, I swear I haven't laughed so much in ages.  The rickshaw had disco lights and music going on, it was hilarious.

Then yesterday, we decided to go all touristy and did an open top bus tour, which we thoroughly enjoyed.  If we'd done it walking we would never have seen so much stuff and might have walked past some of the little hidden gems.  Last night we wandered in to Soho and had a lovely meal, after which we were just so stuffed we just went back to the hotel and went to bed. Hardcore

The only thing that kind of put a 'damper' on the weekend was when we got the bill for last nights meal there was a 12.5% service charge included in the total.  Not a problem, but just out of curiousity Mr C asked the girl serving us if it was optional, which she said it was, but he then asked 'but you do get the tip don't you'.

She said she didn't, because the restaurant owner said it was something to do with taxes etc.  So we asked her that if we asked for it to be removed from the bill and left it as a cash tip would that be better for her.  She said that even then, the owner would take it off her towards the service charge we hadn't paid on the bill. I then asked her, "so the only way you see any of it is if we pay the service charge added to the bill and then leave you some cash?"  Apparently even then she wouldn't necessarily get it as, if another table had opted out of the service charge (even if she hadn't been serving them) that cash we left would then go towards their service charge.

I'm not in the restaurant business, but surely that's not right?  In my opinion a service charge or tip should go to the person serving you, as an appreciation of their service.

Cinds

Sounds like a fabulous weekend. I love the idea of the rickshaw with disco lights.

Re the tipping thing, we have a restaurant near us where the staff only get a tenner per night, the rest of their tips are kept by management. They have cameras in the restaurant and staff get a final warning if they are seen pocketing their own tips.

How frustrating. Yodel say on their site that unless the sender chooses a specified timed delivery then they will deliver at any time between the hours that you mention.

El Loro

I'm waiting deliveries too today. I'm only giving it until 2 though. My little Jack is singing in the school choir at the auditorium today.

I've already told him that I expect a bit more for my money than I got at Christmas!! at his Nativity he was a lamb and in a flock of about 16 singing lambs there were just two sat chatting amongst them oblivious to everything ...................you've guessed it - it was my Jack and his pal William

I've warned him to be on his best behaviour ...........I feel it may have fallen on deaf ears as he is a little chatterbox - God only knows where he gets it from

My deliveries were dropped with a neighbour.

True to form Jack swayed along to the music but looked all round at all the other kids singing only occasionally. His mother shouldn't have disillusioned me .......there were 520 kids from different schools ............I hadn't taken my glasses and had zoned in on a kid (mum said he's wearing a blue t shirt) who was singing beautifully and doing all the actions. I was a little bit disappointed when I was told I was beaming proudly at the wrong child.
