in my 20's i went out with a larger lady

very nice, very good looking

but her mates were half her size

and she used to copy there dress style

she'd squeeze into shorts on a summer night

her mates slipped into theres

people used to laugh at her at the bar

i got into so many rows ie 'WTF you laughing at'

she never knew

she called me a troublemaker

cos i used to go outside

come back in with bruises

i never told her i was outside belting/getting belted by blokes who was taking the p!ss out of her

and a few women aswell used to hit me when i called them on it

people can be nasty

 People can be very cruel.

I feel sorry for you, getting bruises because you were defending her - and then she gives you pelters for being a troublemaker.

I think she sounds jolly, in more ways than one. And as you say, so long as she makes him happy, that's the important thing.

Pirate you always make me laugh but that was priceless.  I knew what you meant straight away when you said jolly

My nephew is like a toothpick.  Tall, really, REALLY skinny and rather handsome (I am bias but he really is handsome).  He brought his new girlfriends to my Mums one day and we were.....surprised.  She is 'jolly' as you say, except she was a miserable sod and has a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp.  However he is very happy and she seems to be a good influence on him.  My youngest was bursting to say something at the time but (thank God!) waited til we got in the car to go home and just said 'D and his girlfriend don't match'  we asked what he meant and he said 'he's skinny and she's very not skinny'.
