It was really good actually. The minimum required attendance is four hours a week (choose the hours yourself). It's very independent learning - you simply work through a book of instructions at your own pace but help is at hand if you need it.

I am completely self taught on the PC. I was fine on Word and Excel but the new office set up has altered a few things and I could do with  being taught properly.

I have entered at level 1 - the first part of the qualification is three modules (chosen by me) Word, Excel and Desk Top Publishing.

Then I can do another three at that level - one of which is Web Design which I'm really looking forward to. Mr Woo does a lot of 'Outside Catering' (fish and chips but also buffets and hot dinners) they are very popular with those in the know but it is a side of the business that needs promoting. I'm hoping that DTP and Web Design would be a good way to start.

poundland is good for that stuff too Soozy, as for traipsing 3 kids around town i didn't have to! I managed to leave one with dad and pop the little un into the shopping centers creche for an hour so it was just me and the eldest dashing around for an hour.

More than likely Jen. It's not like it was in the old days of final salary pensions and such.

This was me.....

If you die while you are a contributing member of the Fund, the benefits that may be payable can include:

  • a lump sum based on four times your pensionable pay;
  • a spouse’s or civil partner’s pension; and
  • in some instances, children’s pensions.

In my experience these were usually paid out, and if you died at work there were all sorts of extras. I always used to say to Mrs Jer, "If I ever collapse and die at home, bundle me into the car boot, drop me off on the wasteland by the river, and 'phone 'em up and  say, "My husband hasn't come home, is he OK?"

That big of a difference eh?

And in reply to Rosie , it is a City  and Guilds  qualification in IT.  I'm fairly certain it is a national initiative  to offer it for free in order to get the population IT literate. Ask at your local HE college.

Thanks Soozy  and good luck with your course
