Vernon Kay has reportedly rejected an exclusivity deal with ITV in the hope of replacing Bruce Forsyth as the host of Strictly Come Dancing.

Forsyth is rumoured to be stepping down as the presenter of the BBC dance competition this year, and Kay has previously been tipped to replace the 82-year-old whenever it happens.

Kay - who agreed a ÂĢ900,000 one-year deal with ITV in 2010 - has now apparently refused to sign a similar contract tying him to the broadcaster in order to be in a position to secure the top role on Strictly.

"Vernon is desperate to get the Strictly job, and the BBC are very keen on him taking it," an insider told The Sun.

"Bruce is his idol but everyone knows he may be off soon. Producers keep expecting the call from him any day to say he's had enough.

"So Vern turned down another exclusive deal from ITV as that would have taken him out of the game if Brucie retires. He'll still do Family Fortunes but they'll just pay him a fee for every show he does."

If Kay was selected as the new host of Strictly, he would join up with his wife Tess Daly, who has co-presented the show since it began in 2004.

A poll on another forum made Matt Baker the most popular choice.
I think he would do it well, but he has 2 other regular programmes now, so it might be too much to take on. (Although it is only an autocue job for a few weekends in the autumn.
I agree, though, Sweet S about Vernon & Tess not being a good idea.

No dancing tonight. Tour continues tomorrow in Dublin.

Today's sun newspaper has a suggestive but inconclusive story about Matt & Aliona; It tries to make something of the fact that they stayed up really late together in the hotel bar TALKING Probs wide awake from the schedule, the dancing & the buzz from the live show.. They stayed in a public area and talked for hours! Whatever next

How shocking.

It makes one so pleased that we have people like The Sun to protect us and keep us informed of all 'dodgy' and unwholesome things in the world.
I note they refer to Matt being "a father of 2" and they use innuendo in italics.
How very very sleazy of The Sun. Of course it also further dimishes their status as a newspaper.
Creating a "story" where none exists.
** wouldn't mind talking for hours with Matt meself**

I absolutely agree with you Baz.      Every word.
If Matt wins another couple of shows I think he cannot be overtaken and he will be certain to win the tour.
Interestingly, on tour Bruno, Len and Craig are all marking Matt & Aliona highly.
Reports suggest that he is revelling in the entertainment aspect and puts on a really good show.

From Matt's Twitter....
Apparently he spilled his coffee today in a rather dramatic fashion.

An item from a York newspaper....

"Matt Baker in line-up for Summer Gala Evening Of Dance And Song at Grand Opera House

2 shows at Birmingham today (afternoon and evenng.)
Then Manchester Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
Finally Glasgow on Tursday, Friday, Saturday (2 shows) and Sunday (2 shows.)

I wonder if the Scottish audiences will show more support for Pamela because of her Scottish connection.
However Matt cannot now be overtaken as the dancer with most wins on the tour.
