His instrument is too low in the mix and I think this is possibly being mimed.

I doubt it ....they are used to performing live  

It's highly likely they were for one you could not mic up all those instruments on stage at once and I noticed he seemed to lift the bow from the strings early on a couple of instances.

 

I suspect it is common practice for these type of shows.

Yes, a bit different for a show like this. It takes hours to set them up.
