Happy 31st birthday to Alesha Dixon.
The corporation has come under fire recently for scheduling the dancing show against the popular ITV talent programme, the X Factor.
Thousands of viewers have also complained about a decision to axe Arlene Phillips, 66, from the judging line up, to make way for the much younger Alesha Dixon, 30 amid claims of ageism.
Dixon has come under fire for her performance on the judging panel, with some viewers claiming she was too soft on some of the contestants, but Phillips has constantly refused to be drawn on her replacement.
BBC One bosses have also decided to ditch the Sunday night results show in favour of one long Saturday night programme because it was felt younger viewers were less likely to stay up watching it the night before a school day.
But according to the latest viewing figures leaked to The Times, it appears moves to attract younger viewers have failed.
Official BARB (audience) figures seen by the paper show the first five episodes, 24.8 per cent of children watching television at the time of the show were tuned to BBC One, which was down from 25.8 per cent over a similar time period last year.
Among the 16-34 age group, the decline is even sharper â the share of viewers watching Strictly fell from 27.5 per cent to 25.2 per cent.
ITVâs ratings, meanwhile, appear to have increased.
Among children, the figure has risen from 56.3 per cent to 58.4 per cent, while for the 16-34 age bracket the share has gone from 52.7 per cent to 55.1.
Sir Michael Lyons, the chairman of the BBC Trust, has previously criticised the corporation for scheduling Strictly against the ITV talent show.
Instead of focusing on viewers, he said that it should be trying to build on the âquality and impact of its programmes, not just audience shareâ.
