I hate to hear the "N" word used in songs and in conversation when young men use it, not acceptable and Anton is old enough to know that this word is offensive.
It's just the papers trying to show how much power they have by keeping digging their heels in.
I don't think his partner took any offence or made a complaint, so I can't see what the problems is.
All this is just causing problems that don't exist.
If Laila Rouss carries on dancing with him and acting like a pro, it says a lot more about her than it does about Anton Du Beke.
Just because you don't have a problem with it doesn't mean others wont be offended, and yes it has clouded my judgement about him as a person (and budding t.v. personality).
If it had been said between the two of them, it was a joke, and she is half Indian is beside the point. He said it, and that kind of language belongs in an era when prejudice and ignorance was accepted. I don't care if he glides across the dance floor like Fred Astaire, he's a prick.
If someone called me a name I'm sure I wouldn't be offended.
If Anton called his Partner that name because she had put so much Fake Tan on and I assume her skin is usually a lot lighter then why would it upset her?
Would it be ok if he had called her an Indian, of which she is anyway?
And how does all this make the lovely people from Pakistan of which I know many and have worked with and been friends with.
How are they going to feel if it is offensive to say the 'P'*** name.
I think we are going way over the top and Anton didn't say it to cause offence, and unless she complains then I would have thought that was the end of it.
The P word is not just any old describing word. It was acceptable to brandish it in jokes back when Jim Davidson ruled to telly screens. If it's all fine and dandy then Anton's apology would not have been necessary, so ask your friends how they feel about it's use, and what emotions it connotes, because they may be better placed to explain that it's a stupid thing to say to anyone (even if they do have origins somewhere near Pakistan).
But as usual, blame the messenger
I think you'll find it's the program PR people who have made the fuss. There is no such thing as bad publicity in the tawdry world of crap TV.
PS - Anton is also a P word... let me down badly there, I've always liked him.
Well played Lailla Rouass!
It's 100% true. That's how these programmes work.
Yes I do.
Ah right - forgot about that bit! LTNS - how are you doing?
I loved the fact that Russell made such a hash of hosting the US awards in 2008 that he got the gig again this year,
I watch SCD because I like the glitz, the glamour and the dancing! I can forget about the daily grind and go back in time when men were gentlemen and glided their beautifully dressed partners around the dance floor.
Strictly Come Dancing's Laila defends Du Beke in race storm
Strictly Come Dancing contestant Laila Rouass has spoken out in defence of her dance partner Anton Du Beke, who's at the centre of a race row. Du Beke has come in for heavy criticism and there have been calls for his sacking after he said Rouass looked like a 'Paki' in an off-air comment.
The comment was made when former Footballer's Wives star Rouass turned up to rehearsals after having a spray tan. Du Beke has since apologised 'unreservedly' for his behaviour towards his Strictly Come Dancing partner, who has Indian ancestry.
"Absolutely not. Anton has apologised and I've accepted it. This happened a couple of weeks ago now and we are just having a really good time. We just want to move on from it," said Rouass after being asked if she thought Du Beke should be sacked.
The BBC has faced claims of double standards over the incident, after Carol Thatcher was axed from her role on The One Show after she used an offensive term during a chat in the programme's green room.
A BBC spokesman drew a distinction between the two incidents, saying that while Du Beke had offered an unreserved apology, Thatcher apologised but continued to maintain her comment was a joke. "Anton understands that it's offensive and has unconditionally apologised," he added.
Hope Not Hate, the anti-racism campaign, said Du Beke should be axed from the BBC1 Saturday night show for his remark.
"The BBC took a clear line on the Carol Thatcher 'golliwog' comment. If anything, this comment is even more offensive," their spokesman said
If it was in the public domain for a few minutes it would probably have caused a rush of phone calls but we don't even know where the info has been leaked from.
Sounds like SCD have a couple of spies listening in because it probably came from where they do the dance training.
Or those that edit the filming during the week.
It's a good job they don't have camera's and Mics in the pubs and clubs and Hotels up and down the country.
There wouldn't be enough room in the papers to get it all in.
Amy Winehouse and Dionne Bromfield to sing on Strictly Come Dancing
Amy Winehouse will sing on Strictly this Saturday
After a long hiatus from the spotlight, Amy Winehouse has announced she will perform on Strictly Come Dancing this weekend in support of her goddaughter, singer Dionne Bromfield.
The 13-year-old is due to release her first single, Mama Said, after Winehouse established a music label, Lioness Records, and signed the teenager from Kent.
She will perform the song for Stictly’s huge Saturday night audience with her famous bee-hived godmother on backing vocals.
Today the teenager said: “Amy and I both love Strictly Come Dancing. I watch it every single Saturday, so it was brilliant to find out I’ll be on TV for the first time singing on one of my favourite shows.”
Mark Linsey, the BBC’s Controller of Entertainment Commissioning, said: "We are delighted to showcase the television debut of Dionne Bromfield on Strictly Come Dancing.
"Dionne is an exceptional new talent and it will be an extra special event for our viewers to see her perform alongside Amy Winehouse, an artist we have been looking to book on the show for some time."
Winehouse, who has been largely absent from the music while waging a long and very public battle with drug addiction, is not the only star stepping back into the spotlight on primetime TV this weekend: Robbie Williams is due to appear on the Saturday night episode of ITV show The X Factor.
The former Take That singer turned solo chart-topper will perform the first single, Bodies, from his comeback album, Reality Killed the Video Star.
He has been in self-imposed exile from the music industry since his 2006 album Rudebox was slated by critics.
The Saturday night show will also feature last year’s winner Alexandra Burke, who is expected to perform her first single, Bad Boys.
But the glut of high-profile guest appearances is likely to reignite debate over the scheduling of Strictly and The X Factor.
The BBC has endured a wave of criticism after moving its popular dance show to a later Saturday night slot this year, putting it in competition with the high-rating ITV singing show.
Accused of “aggressive scheduling”, the BBC has refused to change the show's time slot but has suffered as a result - The X Factor has lured several million more viewers each week than its rival.
Anton's loving Laila!
Kate Garraway
I had to laugh when Alesha Dixon said to Anton Du Beke on Strictly Come Dancing that she was glad he finally had a partner who could dance!
Thank goodness for Laila Rouass, then! Not only can Laila dance, she is gorgeous and seems lovely, too.
Anton phoned me while I was on holiday in Turkey last week and told me she’s a brilliant mover and a fantastic person, too – so he really is like the cat that got the cream!
I’m really pleased that the “Alesha backlash” seems to have died down.
I said in my column last week that we should give her a break and let her find her feet – and, lo and behold, she has.
She gives great, constructive comments and looks really at ease on the panel. Good on you, Alesha!
Dallerup supports Du Beke after race row

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Camilla Dallerup has defended Anton Du Beke against allegations of racism.
The professional dancer, who triumphed with actor Tom Chambers in last year's series, spoke out following calls for Du Beke to be sacked by the BBC.
Du Beke recently made a public apology for describing his celebrity dance partner Laila Rouass as a "P**i". The remark was allegedly made in rehearsals two weeks ago.
Dallerup has now insisted that her former co-star is not a racist, dismissing the incident as an isolated lapse of judgement.
She told Live From Studio Five: "Clearly Anton made a mistake. He has apologised to Laila, who's accepted his apology.
"I must say I have worked with Anton for 15 years and I have never heard him make any racist remarks in the past."
Reports have suggested that the BBC will take no further action over the matter.
Strictly Come Dancing star Jo Wood has forgiven husband Ronnie
By Rachael Wheeler, Mirror.co.uk 7/10/2009
Strictly Come Dancing star Jo Wood has apparently forgiven husband Ronnie for leaving her for 21-year-old Ekaterina Ivanova.
The 54-year-old is said to have moved on from the Rolling Stones rocker and feels no bitterness towards him.
Ronnie, 62, walked out on his wife and family to hook up with Russian model Ekaterina last year (below).
But this week, Jo reportedly said: “I’ve forgiven him and I’m not bitter about anything he’s done. Life’s too short to be like that.”
