he's lost it
Yeah, when I saw Andy Williams was going to be on it, it thought oh my, and then when I heard he was going to be singing moonriver I thought oh my lord

It's one of my favourite favourite songs and, forgive me if I go too far but I've had a bit of wine , but when the music started and the pros started dancing, that's exactly why I watch Strictly.  The whole fairytale princess in a beautiful dress, prince showing her off with a wonderfully romantic song

To see a modern star perform it would have completely lost the whole simplistic Audrey Hepburn innocence of it, to see Andy Williams perform it at least you know there's some substance, even if it wasn't pitch perfect

I'm waffling
FM
Joe has got to work even more harder now to prove he can improve with his dancing now but he should have been in the dance off, he clearly has the fanbase and is popular but the people who voting vote for who they want their choice and their money obviously you do want to keep the really good couples but Bruce and Tess say to vote for your favourites.

As I said about JS last year people will vote for who they want regardless but then it becomes a popularity contest, maybe the other fans should vote more then no point in complaining after if their fav celeb doesn't get through due to not having enough votes is it?.

It does make a total joke of the judges wrong decision on week one to save Rav over Martina.

Martina is a far better dancer than Lynda and Rav hasn't improved since week one so why all of a sudden is Rav going?  if he was better than Martina (which he wasn't) then how come they felt tonight that he wasn't as good as Lynda.?

You're not waffling   no Andy wasn't pitch perfect but I've always loved the song, loved Audrey Hepburn's version in Breakfast At Tiffany's, well loved her in any film lol. I was also lucky enough to see Andy Williams in Concert in London some years ago when his voice was still at his peak and it was a wonderful night. Seeing him tonight brought back some lovely memories

It certainly does, well it was only Len the past it goodman and bruno I want ravs bod banging me, that kept him both Alesha and Craig said he should go as did the delightful ballet woman who said she would've saved Martina.

Len needs to be retired IMO.

I would have quite happily watched John Sargent march his way to the Final and do a victory 'drag Kristina across the floor' dance He was very entertaining

I definetly agree on that, I thought all the hysteria was so laughable and people getting so worked up about it. The judges were quite rude towards John but he was fun and I saw some voting figures the week he quit he was way ahead in the public vote because he was fun, charming and entertaining but he wasn't the best dancer at all lmao but he tried his best and maybe thats what people liked and he gave as good as he got.

exactly....the judges were awful to him.  It's a saturday night entertainment show and the public will vote for who they want to save.  Not like some of the others, he didn't stay in because of his looks, he had personality and the judges even said tonight you have to put personality into your performances.

Cigs, I like Len's old fashioned ways I have to say

I cannot understand how Jo Wood has avoided the dance of for the last 2 weeks.
I thought there were signs of Joe Kalzaghe showing a little improvement, but he doesn`t seem to have a feel for music (which is a major drawback in dancing.)
I think Ali & Brian, and Rickly Whittle and Natalie are rightly at the top of the leader board.
But I think they should be further ahead of the rest. I think the others have been marked a shade too highly.
Ali & Brian, Ricky & Natalie are much better than the others in my opinion.

LOL well good for you, and in certain aspects like the steps that should be there, then yes, but apart from that then no, and well he is overmarking nearly everyone.

I cannot accept his Rav was better than Martina verdict tho, especially now it has been proven he was and is utterly rubbish, still Rav is gone now, so only the boxer, the corrie bloke, jo deadwood to go and we will have dancers some with more personality than others, but still dancers.

But don't you like it when Anton pleases him? I was so glad when they skipped him after Joe's performance, because you just know he was going to lay into Kristina for the use of the cape
I am getting bored of Anton

I am glad he has a partner who has potential (and is extremely hot), but he is becoming a bit of a parody of himself

You take that back!!!!  Oh he is so classically wonderful....I love the shirt, tie and cufflinks even in rehearsals!!

Darlo, I have to agree with DS....'you was' just isn't right   I cannot take to her at all   If she wants to talk about performance fair enough, but please, leave technique to 'the boys'

Sorry - was out. Who went tonight?

Seems to be two schools of thought here. Those who think it's just a Saturday night entertainment show and those who think it's way more serious than that.

I'm definitely part of the Saturday night entertainment faction and whilst I love seeing good dancers like Ricky Wossname I'm also perfectly happy to see someone like JS or Ricky Grooves win.

It was Rav who went, Joe the boxer escaped the dance-off, so stayed, don't think he even danced a step.

thank gawd for threads like this to fill me
Olly - how annoying!    You've just made it very easy for me to decide whether to watch Strictly or X Factor when the live shows start.    I don't mind missing the am-dram performances when they decide who to boot off X Factor!  Only problem is avoiding the thread on here or unwittingly seeing a spoiler.

I cant; do foruming and watching TV at the same time, not if I want to pay attention properly so I don't have that problem. . and if I have recorded something and don;t want a spoiler I don't visit here until I've watched it myself. .  or until I find out I don't know the end cos some eejit over ran and my V + doesn't take that into account

Was a good show last night Suzi.. I prefer the trad misc for dances tho... very few modern songs have the same dramatic affect especially for Latin dances ... [my fav]

tho there are exceptions but some of the modern ones last night seemed completely out of place for the dance they were doing..  spolit it a bit for me

I find that with some recordings, they start early to get all the adverts in then go and stop the recording before the program has finished, so annoying,

The only way round that problem is to record the follow on program as well.

you can tell it's a problem because on some recording you have a load of the previous program on as well.

I'm with you on the music selections, Olly. The music that James and Zoe danced to was crap and ruined their dance for me.
Some of the Music last night was awful, no wonder they find it hard to dance too.
They should all dance to the same good music or how are you supposed to tell who does it best.

As you say, some music ruined the dance, it didn't fit at all.
Hicky
I think the pros pick the music.  Sometimes the more modern stuff works, sometimes it doesn't.  I loved Jill Halfpenny's Jive to "I'm Still Standing" and that was pretty modern compared with something more traditional for the Jive like, oh "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" or something.

For the Paso, you really need something strong with a heavy beat.  It probably depends on the dance celeb too - Jo Wood would never have been able to pull off a Paso to the music Natalie and Vincent had for example.

I meant to manually set the timer on my V+ last night just in case.. but I forgot...

sometimes taping the programme after doesn't work.. they start at the start of the new programme not including the end of the last. .then other times it does.. and sometimes I am already recording other stuff so can't record anything else..

gawd I am a  fussy mare
Mount Olympus *Olly*
tbh I prefer all the latin to be to trad or modern that sounds like trad.. [if that makes sense]

not so much bothered about the Ballroom side, except for the Tango...

I find the Latin oldies are really seccsy... I can almost smell the bars and feel the atmosphere when I hear it.. and then I go off into a dream world with my imaginary hot Latin dancer..

maybe I am a bit crazy as well as fussy too
