Jade Johnson qualifies for the Olympic long jump final in Beijing

Jade Johnson among the favourites to win BBC's Strictly Come Dancing

Fri 25/09/2009 10:20

Former European long jump silver medallist Jade Johnson is 10-1 joint-third favourite to land victory in the latest series of BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, reports spikesmag.com.

Johnson, who stands at 6ft 1ins tall, produced two sizzling routines with dance partner Ian Waite in last week’s show and was awarded 52 out of 60 to place second on the overall leader board.

Judge Bruno Tonioli commented on Johnson’s performance by saying: “Those legs could crack walnuts. I’m envious! Nasty and naughty and I loved it.”

Online betting firm Sky Bet has made Johnson joint third favourite to win the competition alongside Footballers’ Wives actress Laila Rouass. Hollyoaks actor Ricky Whittle is a 2-1 favourite with The Bill actress Ali Bastion second favourite at 5-2.

Stars of track and field have a great tradition of performing well on the show, but have yet to win the British version.

Former Olympic heptathlon champion Denise Lewis was runner-up in the second series while ex-world 110m hurdles record holder Colin Jackson finished in the same position in series three.

Former world long jump champion Fiona May was a past winner on the Italian version, and the 2004 Olympic shot put bronze medallist Joachim Olsen was voted top dog in the Danish edition last year.

Cheryl defends Alesha
But Simon is not happy

September 25, 2009

Cheryl Cole has been given a telling off from boss Simon Cowell after the judge stuck up for her friend Alesha Dixon during a live radio show on Signal 1.

According to the Daily Star, Cheryl wanted to defend the newStrictly judge after numerous complaints about her suitability for the role.

Cheryl told the station, 'Alesha is a really strong woman. I think she's well qualified. I wish her the best of luck and hope it all backs off for her.'

The comments hit a nerve with Simon Cowell, who said that her comments about the rival show would just give it 'free publicity'.

Simon needn't worry – The X Factor had two million extra viewers than its BBC1 rival last week.

Only a few more hours to wait!  The only thing worrying me, ATM, is whether to order pizza or chinese!
Yep, not long now.

Chinese Option-1.
Hicky
Pizza.

I don't even think Jade is as popular as the bookies suggest, she could suffer the same fate as Emma Bunton, Lisa Snowdon, Rachel Stevens etc popular with the judges but not with the voters. Chris however has lots of potential and I think with his charisma and personality will spring a surprise but it's so soon to tell you have to wait and see.

I'm gonna muddy the waters a bit and throw Indian into the mix....

I don't get the Jade thing at all.  I didn't think she was that spectacular a dancer and she's not 'celeb' enough to win votes from the 'fan' contingent.

I'm looking forward to my first look at the next eight tonight.    From the first lot, Ali's way ahead, but I'm looking forward to seeing how they all progress.  Chris I didn't rate in his first dance, but he impressed me on Saturday.   The one I'm really keeping my eye on is Ricky Groves - I think he's got potential to keep on improving and might become really good, who knows?    I just LOVES it!
Kaffs
No, no, no - I can't do a curry!  I love them, but my taste buds are all over the place - long boring story.

I, too, can't wait to see the next 8.  I have no idea who any of them are other than the woman who wa in Primeval and Phil Tufnell - only because he was one of the captains on that sports quiz programme that I can't think of the name!

My husbandis even worse than me as far as zlebs are concerned - he will ask me who they are and I make something up like,"Oh, s/he is on the Bill".  We don't watch it so he has no idea.

I am proper evil!

I've got a feeling Phil Tufnell will annoy me, I do like the guy though, he could be this years JS as suggested but I think Richard will go on Saturday for the fact I predict he'll be the weakest and I don't recognise him but could also be Jo Wood in the mix but the middle is the danger zone of the leaderboard.
darloboy (Play The Game!)
The middle is always dangerous.  I think people feel sorry for those at the bottom and vote for them.

Phil could be quite annoying with his whole "cheeky chappy" persona, but he could also surprise.  That's what is so exciting about the first night.  I expected Rav to be great and Ricky to be rubbish, but it was quite the opposite!

Only 4 more hours!

If you just say Hollyoaks you've a good chance of being right on any of the reality shows!    I can't even remember who's on tonight... the blonde from Footballer's Wives and Ronnie Wood's ex are all I can think of apart from those you mentioned.  Oh.. and the guy from Corrie hasn't been on yet!
Kaffs
In interviews and training Jo Wood is annoying me; not quite sure why though.
Whereas Natalie`s attitude is rather nice I think.
So far I still think Ali and Brian are way ahead of the rest.
Jade dances almost too freely. I`d like the hands and fingers to be a bit more controlled. She looks as if she is about to take off for flight.
Tonight, I`m looking forward to Ricky Whittle and Craig Kelly. (I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised by Craig.)
brisket

This week they will either take on the Tango or whip up a Waltz to earn your votes and impress judges Len Goodman, Craig Revel Horwood, Bruno Tonioli and Alesha Dixon.

Find out who's found their dancing feet as Jo Wood, Phil Tufnell, Laila Rouass, Craig Kelly, Richard Dunwoody, Zoe Lucker, Ricky Whittle and Natalie Cassidy step up to the challenge.

darloboy (Play The Game!)
I'm loving Natalie's attitude and can't wait to see her dance tonight. Just wish the online Daily Mail would stop printing pictures of her with negative spin. (About her weight) its not funny or clever.

Jo Wood annoyed me on ITT the other day,(All little girl breathy voice and mussed up hair) however I'm not going to let that cloud my judgement and it'll be interesting to see the dynamics between Breandan and herself.

Looking forward to this evening. Hope this thing with Alesha Dixon dies down, bit sick of it now.

, most people have the sense to ignore and concentrate on the dancing but now it's a hot story the press will want to keep stirring things.

I hope Zoe Lucker will impress tonight, not keen on her dancing partner James Jordan though but if he has a different approach this series then what he had with Cherie Lunghi then theres a chance he could do better this year

OMG I thought I was alone thinking this. I just can't take to him at all.

I've always found him arrogant, probably a nice guy but he seems aggressive towards his partners and kicks off at the slightest bit of criticism, obviously a talented dancer but he has an attitude problem and has often complained if he and his partner got voted out then accept defeat so could learn some dignity. Brendan Cole is ace though.
darloboy (Play The Game!)
James has a right to be arrogant and smug, after all he has Ola!    She is absolutely stunning!  The fact that she almost wears clothes makes her one of my husband's favourites!

I did get my own back last year when Mark Foster wore that fishnet shirt though.  He was a rubbish dancer, but one of the few men who can pull off wearing a fishnet shirt!

True, Ola is so pretty and sexy though. Ola will beat him this year she's been given a potentially better partner, although it's harder for the male celebs as they have to lift their pro partner and stay in control.

Exactly!  It's like that in Dancing on Ice - I would have so much difficulty trusting my pro partner let alone some numpty who had never done it before!  The year David Seaman was on DOI, he went through like 3 pro dancers because he kept injuring them!

I'm amazed every year to see how much the zlebs improve in their dancing - as long as they aren't a GMTV presenter!

There has been an Eastender or more than one of them or BBC employees on most series of SCD since it's obviously a Beeb show. DOI are more different in that aspect that they go for different people not just ITV employees.

The males have it harder and should be cut some slack if things don't go to plan, the females just have to learn their steps, try to stay in control then the men lift them up.

I mentioned the GMTV presenters because the three they have had on have been dreadful - Fiona Phillips, Kate Garroway and Andrew Castle.

I always felt that DOI were more inclusive as to who they had on - there haven't been that many people from outside ITV (that I can remember, but my brain is like a sieve).  SCD has a broader range - in this series alone there are the obligatory ex-Eastenders, but also Hollyoaks, The Bill, Primeval, sports people, etc.

I know what you meant, Andrew did better than Fiona and Kate though he wasn't that bad. I'm sick of seeing an Eastender on every series I loved Louisa Lytton and liked Matt Di Angelo don't get me wrong but now it's annoying.

SCD hasn't had anyone from Hollyoaks yet this is the first time lol, however they have had lots of models like Kelly Brook, Lisa Snowdon, Penny Lancaster Stewart etc, newsreaders have featured a lot also.
darloboy (Play The Game!)

Johnny Vaughan on ITT this evening made me want to scream. He is a complete and utter irritant and constantly talked over Claudia, Camilla and Lisa.

He is terribly unfunny and hope they don't have him back.
