Well! I've waded through the entire thread and agree that Joe should have been in the dance off with either Martina or Rav....although I don't want Rav to go yet....just because I think he has time for improvement...and he's pretty
That Martina went is no real loss, but the format, having two groups was unfair to those in the first group.
As for Alesha....I like the girl and loved her performances last year, but she's not qualified to judge others at all. I'm not overly upset about the absence of Arlene, she got on my nerves, but she should have been replaced by a dancer...not a singer.

TBH the only thing that really grates on me is Bruce Forsyth's 'performance'....I press 'mute' when he's wittering on...and it's time he retired

Suzi-Q 1929 Forum Posts Today at 15:06  If it's entertainment, why eliminate dancers at all?  Why not just teach them a dance each week and leave it at that? I am glad Arlene was replaced, but they should have replaced her with someone who knew something about dancing.  The other three judges offer constructive criticism that Alesha just doesn't have the background to offer.  They can't improve without the critique.  Being told "You're fierce" means nothing.
It's all about viewer participation, they want votes, but people only vote for their faves, they don't vote for good dancers.
You could have a great dancer, but if no-one knows who it is they won't get any votes.

They don't want 4 judges slagging them off, that's why they have Alesha.

That's the main problem I have with the show - too many people vote like that.   I agree it's an entertainment show... but for me the entertainment is in watching dancers progress and become great dancers.   I didn't actually know who Alesha was when she joined the show - and she was my winner.  Likewise with Tom.  I vote for the person I like to watch and whilst I might hope that someone will turn out to be a good dancer - I could never declare I hope they win without seeing them dance first.

Bruce is a legend and a nice man but I agree with Kaytee he's annoying, at first when he does the doddery jokes I find it funny but then he keeps bring it up time after time, also he always tries to make it about him and he goes on too much instead of going to what the judges or celebs or their pros can say instead of trying to crack his cheesy jokes, credit to him with the dance at the start though. I would love for Anton Du Beke to replace Bruce when he eventually goes.

A dig at the critics is good for him because it makes it fair as they've criticised him but he keeps mentioning it so is obviously getting to him more than he is letting on to prove a point. Don't get me wrong I loved his gameshows especially The Price Is Right. Lots of the older generation obviously respect Bruce but he does have a following from us in the younger generation.

As for Alesha Dixon i've liked her since her Misteeq days they were a fab band with their pop/dance music so was my fav straight away from SCD 5.

From drab to fab: Kristina Rihanoff gets fashionably made up for London Fashion Week

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER
Last updated at 5:19 PM on 20th September 2009

Her pneumatic curves, Marilyn Monroe hair and pouting lips have helped make Kristina Rihanoff one of the most popular dancers on Strictly Come Dancing.

But achieving that look takes a lot of effort - as these pictures show.

Leaving her house yesterday Kristina looked tired and drawn.

But after getting her hair curled and set, applying a full face of make-up, and slipping into a new dress, Kristina was ready to join the fashion pack.

At London Fashion Week today she looked at home amongst the fashionistas at the Louise Golodin show.

Her yellow dress with cut out panels showed off the toned figure she has honed through years of ballroom and Latin dancing.

Kristina is rumoured to have charmed her dance partner Joe Calzaghe, after they were spotted walking hand in hand in his home town.

The pair, both newly single, were also spotted sharing oysters in an upmarket Cardiff restaurant, before dancing in the street outside.

And boxer Calzaghe's ex-girlfriend, model Jo Emma Larvin, said he had banned her from attending the show, saying she would 'put him off'.

Have to say I agree with the comments made about having Aleisha as a backstage commentator and discussing with the celebrities how the dance went that week, she would be perfect doing that, but she wasn't that bad last night really, there are 3 professional dancers on the panel who can comment regarding the moves etc and Aleisha knows how it feels to be standing there and can comment about that.  Karen or Camilla would have made good choices, why didn't the BBC decided to have 4 judges, they are from the quarter finals so they could have done from the start, bit more time spent with the judges, bit less time spent on the Brucie show which totally spoils the programme, he just is not funny  any more, he's embarrassing to watch and it seems sad to watch him as well, knowing what a great entertainer he was back in the day.  I do wonder who could take over from him as presenter though.

I totally disagree with this.  I have no idea who most of these so called celebrities are and I have no loyality to any of them.  Just because Lynda Bellingham appeared on some OXO adverts years ago and I use OXO cubes does not mean that I will vote for her unconditionally is total bollocks.  Sure, you get the Christopher Parker effect and the Matt D'Angeleo effect, but I prefer to think that those are from the "S/He is well fit" brigade.

The fact is, SCD is watched by a broad age range - you can see it in this very thread.  Not everyone who thinks Alesha was a bad choice as a judge wants Arlene back.  I sure don't.  I love SCD because of the dancing.  I love SCD because I want to see someone start off with two left feet and progress to become a wonderful dancer.

I love SCD because of the glamour, the elegance and the bling (as Jade Johnson would say).

I had no idea who Alesha was either, but she moved me to tears in her waltz (I'm a soppy old cow) and I was a huge fan of hers when she was on.

I posted loads on the BBC SCD forum at that time and was totally put off by the "Matt's Minxes" who became very beligerrant and abusive whenever Matt was criticised.

I knew Natalie Cassidy and Ricky Groves from EastEnders and that woman from Primeval.  I knew Lynda Bellingham from Loose Women and knew that she was doing Calendar girls, but that's about it.  It's not like any of them are HUGE names like Judi Dench, Maggie Smith or Alan Rickman.  Or perhaps it's because I don't really care about celebs and their lives.

I love SCD because of the DANCING!

Suzi-Q, if it wasn't for the public voting for the celeb of their choice why do you think that the wrong ones were in the bottom 2 last night, and most seem to agree they were.
It was because the public isn't interested in the dancing, they vote for the dancer they like.

Alesha Dixon refuses to quit 'Strictly'

Alesha Dixon refuses to quit 'Strictly'

Alesha Dixon has vowed to ignore calls for her to quit Strictly Come Dancing following her controversial debut as a judge.

The 30-year-old popstar was branded a poor replacement for Arlene Phillips after she made her first appearance on the programme at the weekend.

However, speaking to The Mirror, Dixon insisted: "Obviously Arlene was a big part of the show for a long time. But my job is not to replace Arlene.

"My job is to provide a perspective that was maybe missing before and that is the understanding of the performance aspects and of just how tough it is to perform to the standards the viewers expect. Having been through the Strictly experience I can relate to what they are going through."

Dixon signed up for the panel in July following the decision to axe Phillips after six series. However, some fans have claimed that she should now stand down and be replaced by the choreographer.

Responding to the demands, the singer said: "I am not a quitter. It's not in my nature to consider quitting. We are just starting on a long road and I know I can help make the path smoother for some of the celebs."

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Friday at 8.30pm on BBC One.

Strictly Come Dancing has 'lost its sparkle' says Arlene Phillips

Former Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips has said that she thinks that the new series of the show has "lost some of its sparkle".

The choreographer told The Sun that she thinks that the new format of the show is "too long" and has "diminished" the excitement.

Arlene said: "An hour and a half is too long and getting the results so quickly diminishes the excitement.

"Viewers like to be able to get up, make a cup of tea, then come back and settle in for the results.

"It heightens the level of excitement. Thinking, 'Somebody is going to go home tonight' used to give me butterflies."

She added: "There was much more drama when there were two shows."

Arlene, who was replaced by Alesha Dixon on the judging panel of the show, said that she felt the new format "dragged on".

She added: "It wasn't at all strange watching it from home.

"I just felt it dragged on a bit."

Strictly Come Dancing verdict, by Jim Shelley

Strictly Come Dancing

You can have too much of a good thing. But too much of a bad thing is the problem where Strictly Come Dancing is concerned .

"I'm looking forward to Sunday," said Bruce - seemingly referring to what used to be results night. In fact he was just gasping for some respite. After an hour-and-a-half on Friday and a whopping 100 minutes on Saturday, who could blame him?

The more padding the show has (two dances from the professionals, a performance from last year's winners ) the less interesting the competition.

Alesha Dixon has failed to inject the judging with any vigour and the camp antics of the other three judges are like a tired pantomime from the 70s. The X Factor may have ruined its OWN format with that live audience.

But any watercooler moments that grip the country are going to happen on the ITV show.

Strictly bosses insist they won't move the show despite X Factor ratings victory

Natalie Cassidy and Vincent Simone Strictly Come Dancing [Pic:BBC/PA)

Defiant BBC bosses last night insisted they would not move Strictly Come Dancing's time slot despite an opening weekend ratings hammering by the X Factor.

ITV's hit show peaked on Saturday with 10.7 million viewers while Strictly's high was 8.7 million after the two went head to head. X Factor also had an average of 9.3 million, compared to Strictly's 7.7 million.

But despite the walloping, and a growing number of complaints from viewers unable to watch both, the BBC are refusing to even partially reduce the amount of overlapping of the two shows.

A bbc spokesman said: "The overlap, which has happened 40 times in the past, has clearly not dented the fortunes of either show."

That is sure to further infuriate X Factor supremo Simon Cowell, who told the Mirror on Saturday it was "crazy" that the two shows were aired at the same time. And he could not hide his frustration even after the ratings victory. He said: "I'm happy with our figures, but I would like viewers to be able to see both their favourite shows. They are the most important people.

Last year Strictly's first first live show got 8 million against X Factor's 9.3 million, although they were not head-to-head.

Cowell also said that the show's new controversial first round audition format, with a live audience, was here to stay. "There is absolutely not a cat in hell's chance that I would go back to a boring audition room and have people scream at me singing acapella. It didn't test them enough."

Amanda Platell's opinion about Alesha Dixon as a judge.

No, we want a critical, intelligent, well-informed assessment of the performances, not the judging equivalent of being licked by a chocolate labrador.

, so it's basically a crime for Alesha to be nice and supportive to the celebs now is it another sign of the media jumping on the bandwagon and glad she isn't letting it get to her.
Apparently Craig Revel Horwood stuck up for her on BBC Breakfast and good for him is what I say.

Alesha was referred to last night during a review of the morning papers on BBC News as 'the most hated woman in Britain'.
darloboy (Play The Game!)
I don't think Alesha is the most hated woman in Britian - Jordan still wears that crown!

Most people don't like change and refuse to accept it.  You only have to look at some of the posts in this forum to see that.

I am glad that Arlene is gone.  I would have liked to see someone who knows something about dancing professionally on the panel.
FM
'the most hated woman in Britain' ? That is a step too far.    I think she's completely irrelevant as a judge and find it insulting that the BBC think I need someone to tell me that the contestants are 'fierce' which means nowt.   Don't exactly hate her for not being qualified (imo) to judge.     It's all very well to say that she's only giving her opinon and she's not criticising their technique but she's scoring them, so that argument doesn't wash with me I'm afraid.

Strictly Come Dancing: Alesha Dixon does not deserve 'horrendous backlash'

Strictly Come Dancing judge Alesha Dixon does not deserve the "horrendous" viewer backlash which greeted her debut on the show, according to Craig Revel Horwood.

 By Anita Singh, Showbusiness Editor
Strictly Come Dancing: Alesha Dixon victim of horrendous backlash, says Revel Horwood
Craig Revel Horwood (left) leapt to the defence of new judge Alesha Dixon Photo: PA

He sprang to the defence of his fellow judge after thousands of BBC viewers swamped internet messageboards to complain about Dixon's performance.

Many demanded the reinstatement of Arlene Phillips, 66, who was dropped from the judging panel in favour of Dixon, 30, a move which prompted accusations of ageism.

He told BBC Breakfast: ''If you go back and look at the first weeks of any of us, Arlene, Len, Bruno and I, on any of our early recordings none of us were perfect right away.

"To get good constructive criticism in 10 seconds is not an easy thing to do and it takes time.

"Alesha has got to be given a chance. She's up there to form a critique and that's what she is doing.''

Viewers complained that Dixon was "totally out of her depth" on the show because she had no choreography experience. Others said she was a "disaster" as a judge, making a string of banal comments.

Dixon, who won the show in 2007, remained defiant in the face of criticism and said she would continue on the BBC One show.

"I am not a quitter. It's not in my nature to consider quitting," she told the Daily Mirror.

"You can't please all of the people all of the time."

The BBC said it was "delighted" with her debut as a judge.

On Saturday night, former tennis champion Martina Hingis became the first star to leave the show, following a dance-off against TV presenter Rav Wilding.

Revel Horwood said that he disagreed with Hingis's exit.

''I was surprised. In my personal opinion I thought Martina was better. At least she did dance, unlike Rav - he was just standing there posing,'' he said.

He added, in reference to Joe Calzaghe: ''I think a certain boxer should have ended up in the dance-off, but the audience are going to vote for their favourites. Now the audience have kept him in, I hope he works harder.''

Acid-tongued Revel Horwood also revealed he thought there were two potential candidates to provide this year's John Sergeant. Former newsman Sergeant was a huge hit with the public last year despite his lumpen performances.

Revel Horwood said: ''I think we might find the John Sergeant next week - when we've got Phil Tufnell taking to the floor.

''We might even find a female version in Jo Wood after seeing her in the group dance.''

Well the format will be slightly different in the quarter finals in regards to the voting to avoid the controversy from last years semi final, so I hope theres no complaints about that they've had to make some changes to make it more fair.

I love the word fierce, knew exactly what she meant by that some didn't but Lynda Bellingham looked happy with that comment.
