Some people really need to lighten up and stop taking the show so seriously, Arlene is not coming back they will have to get used to it i'm afraid. Alesha is lovely so she'll deal with all this criticism towards her.
Wouldn't surprise me Aimee, he's so miserable anyway but I doubt thats his style anyway the celebs seem happy by her presence and Bruno enjoys her company, but there could be tension off stage but I know most probably like her still.
Ooh glad you like her Jamieboy. Bet you was impressed with Ali lol but Chris was the best for me over the two nights but Ali was fab.
cant wait to see ricki whittle dance and i liked jade
I agree with that, they shouldn't be put under so much pressure in the first week. I think the ideal situation would be for all the dancers to dance on the Fri and Sat. Seems unfair if you're chosen for the first group and get eliminated. Its like giving the later group an unfair advantage, at least they know that they won't have the chance of being the first dancer voted off.
By the way it was a shame that Martina has gone, should have been wooden plank Joe in the dance off. ANother John Sargent situation methinks
Hey! How come Karin Harding isn't in it this year and the girl who won with Tom last year?
I'm sure dancing skills will come into play as we get further into the show but in the early weeks it's very much a personality contest.
As for Alesha - I do feel sorry for her. I loved her as a contestant but I really can't see what she can possibly bring to the judging panel. There was always going to be a backlash and not just because of the ageism row over Arlene.
She may have been a contestant and that gives her a great insight into how the contestants might be feeling and how difficult it is to learn the dances, but she's not a professional dancer nor a dance specialist, so she is never going to be able to comment on technicalities which the other three judges can do.
Unfortunately, Alesha is going to be on the receiving end of how disappointed some of the public and their reaction to the change in line up. Hopefully for her sake it will subside a bit. I know it's been said that this programme is entertainment, which is of course it is, but ultimately it is a dance contest - contest being the operative word.
Sorry to bore everyone (don't think I've ever written such a long post ) toodles
Martina certainly wasn't the worst celeb dancer last night but it's pretty obvious she doesn't have the public support. She wasn't well liked as a tennis player - a real brat/spoilt madam as I remember. I'm inclined to agree with the earlier poster (can't remember who) - Len kept Rav in because he's got the 'body' and personality ........Martina is no great loss. I'm sure dancing skills will come into play as we get further into the show but in the early weeks it's very much a personality contest.
After all the show is competing against X-F, so every viewer counts.
The dancing doesn't really come into it, you will find that out.
Notts Euro MP asks Beeb to reschedule 'Strictly'
Ms McClarkin, who was elected in June, spoke out after Conservative Shadow Media and Sport Minister Jeremy Hunt criticised the BBC for putting Strictly Come Dancing up against ITV's X-Factor.
Ms McClarkin said: "It is a real problem for people who want to watch both.
"They are both great shows, which are on for many, many months and are of great entertainment value.
"It is a great show and it's such a shame that the BBC has decided to put them head-to-head."
------------
I feel the outcome will not be good and this move could seriously damage her career.
She was ill advised to take a job she is not qualified for. I will reiterate again, I loved her on SCD and think she is fabulous, just not in this role. I'll go so far and say I actually cringed for her last night.
I think it is sad that it wasn't the worst two Linda and Joe in the dance off. I thought Martina did so much better than them. But that's the public vote, as per last year and John Sargeant (I think John was more entertainment value than Joe).
I think the format is unfair, having half of them do their first 2 dances this week and the others have longer to practice theirs, also one has gone before they even start. This just isn't right, I don't know if this is how they've always done it, but even if so, it doesn't make it right.
I love seeing the fab dresses and wishing that I could dance.
Alesha's career will be fine regardless, some people have to stop taking SCD so seriously like it's life or death and remember it's just a TV show. I wouldn't blame her if she hid away from the publicity for a bit, she's a lovely girl and all this drama over a Saturday night entertainment show is pathetic really when there is worser things happening elsewhere.
Darlo, nobody is being mean to Alesha for the sake of it, I would hate you or anyone on this forum to think that of me. However, SCD is a fabulous show and we the public have every right to voice our opinions and the topic of Alehsa's appointment happens to be very relevant.
Forgive me but I don't think my opinion or anyone other person that doesn't agree with you is pathetic. Thats not fair or nice IMO.
p.s. I know you are a very well respected and beloved member of this forum and I am new, but this is how I feel.
It's not looking good for Alesha and I agree with those who say taking this job is a decision she may live to regret. Of course it's wrong to take it out on her personally, but IMO the Beeb completely misjudged this. In the main, Strictly fans watch it for the dancing and enjoy the constructive comments of the judges. I couldn't bear Arlene for the record, but I respected her opinion and mostly agreed with it (except when her hormones got in the way!) Alesha has nothing to contribute apart from 'you looked elegant, stunning' etc and when she used that good old X Factor phrase last night 'You nailed it' - I cringed.
Darlo - I hardly think the comments of most people are 'dramatic' they're opinion, just as your opinion on Alesha is just that - an opinion, not fact. You don't actually KNOW that she's a great girl, although I agree she SEEMS to be. It's not pathetic to not like the direction the show seems to be taking and some of us find the entertainment in watching good dancing and constructive criticism. Doesn't make us wrong.
It's all good we're all entitled to our opinions, was aware that there would be a backlash when it was announced but it seems some people are now turning their anger about Arlene going and using it to have digs at Alesha Dixon herself which isn't nice having a read at the forums and papers but the BBC must be loving the publicity regardless and they have to take responsibility. I just see SCD as entertainment and I found the whole JS controversy laughable as it was front page news at the time instead of the serious news but some take it so far like it's a pro dance contest and some love to moan theres always drama every series anyway.
Alesha wouldn't have took the job if she didn't think she could cope, it was offered to her by the BBC and couldn't turn it down imagine if we was in her position we would be making the same comments on the panel.
It's new Alesha life for Strictly
20/09/2009
FRIDAY night, BBC1. Only one thing you can say about Alesha Dixon's STRICTLY COME DANCING judging debut:
What a massive mistake.
Not the BBC hiring her in the first place. I just can't understand the hysteria about that. I thought she did fine. Bit nervous maybe, but live TV can do that to a girl.
No, the mistake I'm talking about is the advice Alesha offered Ricky Groves after his first dance: "You need to use your acting skills."
Blimey, Alesha. Did you never see him on EastEnders?
Elsewhere, TV's sexiest show just got sexier. And even Simon Cowell must know his singing male stripper and girl group made up of ropey ex-lapdancers was a lame riposte.
This weekend's X Factor is like the tackiest stag or hen party Blackpool has even seen (especially the dodgy karaoke). Strictly purrs like the slickest Broadway show in comparison.
Plus, Friday's opener even boasted the biggest shock in its five year history. BRUCE FORSYTH DID A FUNNY GAG!
Seriously. It was when he introduced the very first duo: "As a mechanic in EastEnders, Ricky was always tinkering around with an old banger . . . tonight, he'll be dancing with Erin Boag." (Could've been worse, Erin. He could've called you a rusty old spanner.)
Sadly, Brucie shot his bolt far too early (well, he is 82). The rest of his shift was the same old, same old. Gag after gag came with a side order of tumbleweed.
He did that shuffly little tap-dance which makes him look like a confused escapee from an old people's home at a bus stop. And that frickin' "doddery" catchphrase remains just as funny as it was last year.
The judges were back in the old routine as well.
Len was still grumpy. Bruno admitted he still hasn't found what he's looking for (an even remotely convincing hairdye?)
And Craig was still reluctant to be nice (honestly, he's a fastidious bugger lately - I mean, in his old rent boy days all it took for him to be nice was a couple of hundred quid and his taxi fare home.) The big story though was Alesha. Who looked amazing, brought some much- needed life to that judging panel and, apart from the odd lapse into "street", spoke a lot of sense.
Fact is, in one weekend she's already contributed more than The X Factor's Biffa Cole has in a series and a half. ("Are yiz from Newcastle? Ah, thought so. The accent.")
Yet bitter, bitchy queens have still been bombarding internet forums bemoaning Alesha's lack of technical know-how.
Do me a favour, girlfriends. She didn't just win this show in 2007, she blitzed it. And placed alongside Bruno (once danced in an Elton John video) and Craig (choreographed a few West End shows) I'd say her grasp of ballroom will prove more than adequate.
As for the tiresome hype over the schedule clash with X Factor, it's not about which show you should watch, it's about which one you should record. (Clue: The one with the adverts and the stodgy filler.)
Still, I may be able to help poor old Simon Cowell out. Cos if he really does want to put his ego second (ha!) and do something to make the people at home happy, and if changing a schedule really is as easy as he claims, then why doesn't he just tell ITV to put The X Factor on at 6pm?
There you go, Simon. We have resolved this.
STRICTLY questions. Would it be fair to say Friday's group Mambo featured Laila Rouass and Natalie Tankass?
When Chris Hollins said Ola Jordan "doesn't seem to want to cover her body up" was that a complaint or a verbal high-five?
When Alesha proudly announced "I've got the best seat in the house" shouldn't she have at least checked what Ola was wearing first?
When Jade Johnson said she already felt like she had been married to her dance partner Ian Waite for years did anyone else go "hmmm, unlikely"?
How long will it be before unkind commentators point out Oxo mum Lynda Bellingham is now looking a bit beefy?
And when Bruno told Joe Calzaghe he needed to "get down on Kristina Rihanoff, use her, play her" was that advice about three weeks too late?
PS: Boss says I've been too nice this week. Week's holiday enforced. See you back here October 4th.
- Weekend Madness!
Hi guys just want you to know that iâm ok. after a complete slating by the press (ian hyland was very lovely in his article i have to say!) just remember iâm made of strong fibres!!!! Love you guys, stay positive xxx
, well the celebs seem to be in favour of her being a judge had a good look around and they've had nothing but positive words to say about her so thats one positive out of many negatives.
As for Arlene and Alesha - I, for one am glad Arlene is gone. She rarely offered constructive criticism, except to those she liked and the others she insulted. However, the BBC should have replaced her with Karen or Camilla. Both are professionals, and Alesha is just a talented amatuer.
Couldn't agree more with you Suzi-Q either of those two would have been a great addition to the panel
This show is more than just 'entertainment' it is supposed to be a dance contest that is entertaining otherwise what is the point of having it?
I think I said last night that I`d much rather her there than Emma Bunton or Gloria Hunniford who were also touted.
When all said and done at least Alesha won as outstanding and all the judges said at the time that she was good enough to dance professionally so, in my opinion anyway, she has a valid input on the panel and will soon settle in.
I will say that I appreciate that this is only my view and that everyone else is entitled to their own but I think we should all stop blaming her for taking a job that was always going to go to an ex contestant. If we blame anyone, blame the BBC
.I post on the BBC SCD message boards and all the judges get criticism you get some right posts that go from constructive criticism to negativity, but I do agree that Alesha wasn't given a chance before she even appeared on the first show because some just weren't willing to give it and understandable if they were upset about Arlene but some were looking for an excuse to moan or be negative.
However, I DO NOT want Arlene to come back, but they need someone with more credibility as a judge than Alesha. Perhaps Alesha would be better suited to a behind the scenes kind of thing and give a commentary each week on how it feels to be learning a particular dance and how she felt as she learnt the dance.
The celebs are there to have fun and enjoy themselves by learning to dance, also maybe to further their careers as they're already famous so it isn't changing lives at the end like X-Factor all you get is a glitterball at the end not a professional dance contract anyway the press have no way of telling what people outside the forums think as we're obviously not a whole representation of the public, they've had to quote and read the forums as back up for this story since it is hot gossip right now, but a shame that the focus on the dancing and celebs is being pushed back but it was always bound to happen.
I have no complaints about Martina Hingis going. I felt she had a long way to travel to become something like a dancer. (She's not the only one of course, but seriously I thought she was pretty poor, and I felt Rav Wilding clearly improved in his dance-off.)

I think Brian and Ali are well ahead at the moment.
She is just what the organisers wanted.
Arlene was being replaced to get some younger blood on the panel.
Bet they would love to get rid of Bruce but are too scared, never liked him at the start, and he only gets worse.
They only need three judges to ppull them to pieces on their Technical skills, they haven't had time to learne the Technical skills so why slate them at this early stage.
Thank heaven for Alesha, at least she won't slate them and upset them like the others.
It's not a dance contest, it's an entertainment show.
I am glad Arlene was replaced, but they should have replaced her with someone who knew something about dancing. The other three judges offer constructive criticism that Alesha just doesn't have the background to offer. They can't improve without the critique. Being told "You're fierce" means nothing.
X Factor Wins Ratings Battle With Strictly
2:32pm UK, Sunday September 20, 2009
The X Factor has won the battle of the ratings with 2 million more viewers than its BBC rival Strictly Come Dancing.
X Factor judges Louis Walsh, Danii Minogue, Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell
The ITV1 show was watched by an average audience of 9.3 million on Saturday night, peaking at 10.7 million.
The first Saturday night broadcast in this year's series of Strictly attracted an average of 7.7 million viewers, peaking at 8.7 million.
The two shows clashed in the primetime slot with Strictly being shown between 7.25pm and 9.05pm, while X Factor went out between 8pm and 9.15pm.
A BBC spokesman said: "We are very pleased with Strictly's viewing figures from last night's show.
"The peak audience of 8.7 million combined with 9.1 million on Friday night means the show has got off to a great start."
Strictly's Phil Tufnnell and partner
He said the clash between Strictly and X Factor had not damaged either show with more than 19 million people tuning in to watch them.
Tennis player Martina Hingishas become the first celebrity to be voted off Strictly Come Dancing.
The casting vote of judging chairman Len Goodman saved Crimewatch presenter Rav Wilding and sent Hingis packing after the two celebrities came bottom in the viewers' poll.
