Arlene: 'Bastian was like a pomegranate'

Arlene Phillips has criticised Ali Bastian for failing to "grip" viewers on Strictly Come Dancing.

Speaking to The Sun, the show's former judge claimed that Bastian had "the passion of a pomegranate" while on the dancefloor with her professional partner and rumoured boyfriend Brian Fortuna.

Discussing the axed pair further, Phillips continued: "Whatever was speculated about Ali and Brian's chemistry off the show, on the floor their dancing lacked passion."

Meanwhile, on the duo's attempt at the Argentine tango on Saturday, she explained: "It's a dance of passion and Ali didn't grip the audience. Ali is marshmallow and in this dance you need to be peanut brittle."

Phillips also announced that she fears Ricky Whittle could lose out to Chris Hollins in next week's final.

She said: "Ricky's downfall is his dead eyes. He is the deserving winner but he has to connect with the audience and show how much he wants to win the show - otherwise Chris will wipe the floor with him."

The Strictly Come Dancing final airs on Saturday from 6.35pm on BBC One.
