Morning

really looking forward to tonight - would like to see Chris and Olga do well to put an end to the poor performances of the  presenters of previous years

and am so looking forward to the Martina Matthew partnership

but it is early days so good luck to them all - it is a daunting experience and nerves can alter everything

Natasha  and Jill were both very good in their series's but the standard of dancing then leaped to great heights at the start of each series
Darran and Ramps both deserved their wins but Ramps was the best male IMHO and both had fantastic pro partners
Aleisha was just fab from the word go and had a great partnership with matthew... pure joy to watch

They are already predicting who will go first.

Strictly Come Dancing star Lynda Bellingham is favourite to leave show first

Despite 40 years in the business, Strictly Come Dancing outsider Lynda Bellingham is remembered by most for the long-running Oxo campaign and by me for a low-budget film she once appeared topless in.

Men aren't attracted to women because of their mind, they're attracted to them because of what they don't mind and Lynda looks like the open-minded sort.

I can spot them a mile off - they're the ones who don't slap you in the face.

You have to laugh at the way showbiz types refer to acting as "the business", as if their aren't any other businesses in existence.

Although if Gordon Brown stays in power much longer, there might not be.

It slips people's minds that SCD is not a dance competition, it's a popularity contest. And what La Belle Bellingham has in abundance, apart from crates of free gravy granules, is the support of the public, especially as she is a regular on Loose Women - just as I'd like to be. That's why bookies are out of their minds to make her 9-4 favourite to be first dancer voted off when the new series begins tonight.

There are far better bets than her to get the boot first. Maybe Richard Dunwoody is the one.

He said this week that learning to dance is like learning a new language - although the only words I ever understood on a dance floor were "eff off, Ugly!" In the same way that Big Brother is spiced up by the introduction of friends and partners of housemates, it's my theory that whenever former jump jockey Dunwoody is on the floor, producers should send on a couple of loose horses.

First elimination (Hills): 9-4 L Bellingham, 7-2 R Groves, 9-2 C Hollins, 5-1 M Hingis, 6-1 A Bastian, 9-1 J Johnson, 16-1 bar.

Ratings war loom as Strictly Come Dancing returns

Strictly Come Dancing returns to TV screens tonight for a seventh series and is gearing up for a ratings war with The X Factor.

The celebrity couples take to the dance floor for the first show of the new series tonight, and will go head to head with the hit talent show for more than an hour on Saturday.

The two shows have occasionally overlapped by up to half an hour, although during the last series BBC1's Strictly usually finished before its ITV1 rival began.
Alesha Dixon
The BBC has abandoned Strictly's traditional Sunday night results show in favour of an extended Saturday edition, which is part of the reason for the clash.

Earlier this week Strictly waltzed into the record books as the most successful reality TV format of all time.

The new series will see stars including former EastEnder Natalie Cassidy, retired world champion boxer Joe Calzaghe and Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood's estranged wife Jo do battle on the dancefloor.

Calzaghe has been romantically linked to his dancing partner Kristina Rihanoff, but his ex-girlfriend Jo-Emma Larvin said she will still be voting for him.

The series also sees former winner Alesha Dixon joining the judging panel. The singer replaces choreographer Arlene Phillips.

I`m really looking forward to tonight, I didn`t realise till today that they are all going to do 2 routines now no wonder they have had to spread the first shows over 2 weeks.

It's more fairer this way as we get to see more dancing plus it helps with the voting now they've sorted out what went wrong last series. I love the mixed boy/girl idea, so next week will be as interesting with the other half of the group. Tango or Waltz tonight the 8 celebs are doing, the other 8 celebs doing a group Mambo.

How to watch Strictly Come Dancing online

The BBC is offering interactive live streaming of this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The sequins, glitter and dangerously high heels have returned for a new series of BBC One’s popular ballroom dancing competition Strictly Come Dancing. This year the BBC has expanded its – already highly interactive – services to include on-screen audience reactions.

It will now be possible to watch the live show from the BBC’s website â€“ for those unfortunate souls who may still be stuck in work perhaps. But as an added incentive viewers have the option of being able to see what other viewers think of the dance moves by clicking on “emotion” buttons which denote various reactions such as “gasp” and “boo”. The button which receives the most clicks will be illustrated with a large symbol on screen so fans can witness the rest of the internet-savvy nation gasping along with them. For those who miss the live shows they can be seen for an additional week on the BBC’s iPlayer (with or without the “gasp” symbols).

Strictly Come Dancing line up 2009
The Strictly Come Dancing dancers and stars rehearse before the first show

The final rehearsals are nearly over, the dancers are ready to go but are the celebrity contestants ready for the beginning of this year's Strictly Come Dancing?

It's a cold Thursday morning in one of the massive practice studios at BBC Television Centre in west London.

The stars and their professional dance partners are being put through their paces ahead of the start of the seventh series.

Some are already finding it tough. Former cricketer Phil Tufnell won I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! in 2003.

He says his body's already aching: "My back hurts, my shoulder. It's quite tough.

"You're on your feet for five hours, four hours a day doing this dancing. I feel a bit tired. It's hard work.

"They do it all so fast. I'm going forward when I should be going back, I'm going back and they're all going forward. Nightmare."

This year is the first time the show will go out without Arlene Phillips as one of the three judges.

Taking her place is the winner of series five, Alesha Dixon.

Former Footballers' Wives and Primeval actress Laila Rouass is practising for the group mambo salsa.

She thinks Alesha Dixon will be good for the celebrity dancers. "For us, it's good news, in the sense that she knows how we feel.

"She's going to be able to understand where we're coming from. If there's a step wrong or we mess up here and there, she'll completely understand it's nerves.

"But Arlene's still part of the show. I think she's choreographing one of the group dances, so she's still very much part of the show. She's fabulous."

TV clash

There's been controversy this year over the scheduling of Strictly Come Dancing.

It's going out at the same time as ITV1's X Factor for the first time on Saturday evenings.

But former EastEnders actress Natalie Cassidy says most people can watch one and record the other.

"Just make sure you watch this first so we get the audience figures.

"And ITV always repeat X Factor all day long on Sunday, so what's the big deal?
