Has anyone ever put stuff into storage? Our house completes on 4th Jan and I don't think I will be in anywhere new by then so I am going to have to put some stuff into storage.
I am really only worried about a rather lovely dresser that my Mum left me in her will. It may not be worth much financially but it is worth a lot emotionally,
So any tips or hints would be appreciated.

was it expensive and did you have any way of protecting your items

It all depends Isadora, if they remove the items into storage and then deliver them back when you need them it will cost you more. Mine was in storage 6 weeks and with removal it cost me about 600, that was 4 years ago. I'm sure you can get a private insurance out on your stuff, but a good removal company should be insured. It was weeks later I realised a case was missing and I had already signed to say I had received everything, it was pointless making a big thing about it as I really should have checked everything. Hope this helps

I have used storage loads and it is fine.

With moving anything you run the risk of it being damaged. and that just comes with moving.

Do you have a friend who could have your special bits in there house?? Perhaps in a spare room??

The other thing you can do is get a self storage space and gradually move your stuff into it. then on the day of the move you just move out and you have self stored everything.

You then live in your temp accommodation. When you are ready you send the removers to the storage unit and they move it all to  your new house.

The self storage places often have a van you can rent for as little as ten pounds a day to move your stuff in.  the will sell you bubble pack and boxes and tape guns all you need.

Phone them for a chat. no idea where you are but this lot are all over the south east  http://www.loknstore.co.uk/storage_locations.asp  Also have balls of steel and ask for discounts and "best prices" shop around.
