Squiggle I cant see one intimidating thread here yesterday,
Lockes the point I am trying to make is that I felt intimidated, you didn't (although to be fair you were on the side of the majority) and I know that Joyron did.  We are all different, I try to make allowances for people.  I was insulted earlier, I haven't gone on and on about it. Please people let it lie now.  I know how upset my friend will be feeling.

I am sorry Squiggle it should be us that feel upset not your friend

I cant see one intimidating thread here yesterday, people just having opinions, that was until Joyron made that sweeping generalisation of us all being stupid because we didnt agree with her

Don't really want to interfere, but I've not seen anyone intimidating anybody, just differences of opinions. The only thing I saw was the stupid post yesterday and thought what's all that about, just because people disagree doesn't make them stupid.

no other reason than we did not support the tory Party
In the same way that anyone not openly loving the labour party is labelled as a prawn sandwich munching, sky news reporting, thatcher loving toff (obviously not all at the same time, but these have been used individually!) These comments may have been made as a 'jest' but then so are lots of comment that intimidate. Sometimes it's as daft on here as it is on PMQs!!!!

Yeah I agree with your above statement, as you say made in Jest.........but "you are all stupid" a bit too far IMHO

Let me tell you that loads of people just disappeared from the forum yesterday evening and most of today.  People may not have felt they were being intimidating but believe me that is how it felt.  Hardly any of our regulars have even popped up in the Freddie thread today.
Just for the record squiggle, Gaga was having server problems yesterday evening and part of this afternoon too. It is mentioned in the feedback thread. I gave up trying for a good few hours during both periods as, I expect, many others did too. So it may be in no way due simply to perceived intimidation. Just a thought!

But anyway... I think people would have thought very badly about Brown hanging on any longer. He would have had to resign having failed to retain power anyway. At least this way the Labour Party can set about electing a new leader and building into a viable opposition in Parliament. I thought he behaved impeccably and am proud for having supported him as the leader of the party and throughout the election campaign.

I hear what you are saying X (call me a coward, I'm leaving your name there ) the reason I started this thread was it seemed like he was leaving by the back door tonight.  Maybe the news got that wrong, or I did, but I just felt that wasn't the right way to treat any outgoing leader.

If theres anything I can't stand its people being very smug about winning... in a case of football banter I deal with it every week and laugh it off. When it comes down to politics it feels very different, especially when its down to my friends and family keeping their jobs. It can be very personal...
It's a case of wait and see M&P. If it doesn't work, it will soon give us another election.

Awww come on Mr M & P....... don't tell me you wouldn't have been really happy if things had gone your way..... It's a democracy......and I like to hope I would have been as gracious in defeat as I am happy at having got what I think will be a good deal for the country......

And THIS is why i don't discuss politics with most people.

I'll just drop this little reminder here and be on my way:  EVERYone is entitled to his/her own opinion, without being belittled in any way.  Here's a sample conversation:

Ms. X - "I'm so upset that the [insert party name here] party won!  They will destroy the country!  I can't STAND them!!!"

Mr. Y - "There, there, Ms. X! I'm sorry to hear that you feel that way.  I disagree, but you are certainly entitled to your opinion.  I guess time will tell, won't it?"

I expect to see re-enactments of the above all over the place.
