yeah... I will be! tis nothing serious... just temporarily taken me out of the game... have a cyst thing on my back that is compressing a nerve... so my arm hurts like buggery. HOWEVER... tis ok at the moment... cos I have worked out the pain killers... so its under control... I just can't do much.
I went on the 18 week wait list about a month ago... so at the latest I should be sorted by the end of the summer.
AND... and.... mega good news... they say as long as its as straight forward as they think I can have it as day surgery!!!! AND... and... I can keep my knickers on during surgery! (I was dead chuffed when they told me that!)
Listen to Ben whinging on like a miserable old sod.

So you wont be going under a general anaesthetic for the op? That'll speed up your recovery. Hope you get it over and done with soon missus xReference:

unfortunately I am having a general Karma... but they have been really good about tracking down my old anaesthetic records and finding out what mix of drugs I had last time that disagreed with me so much. They are so much better than the hospital I had my arm pinning operation at... this lot actually listen to me...

nope... Ipswich! I was uber shocked & surprised at how clean & how good they are there... its out of area for me... I didn't want to go to the hospital I used to work at... but we were always given the impression Ipswich were a bit crap.
They are bloody ace! And sooo thorough.. I got swabbed in every nook & cranny for MRSA when I went for my pre-op assessment! Good to know they do it... a little traumatising at the time.. when you think all they are gonna do is ask a few questions & take your blood pressure.

ooops... sorry... that'll be my fault...
but.. on the bright side... I am no longer over excited, I am gonna give cod liver oil tablets a whirl, and I have ascertained that moisture wicking pants are not a common wardrobe item for the mature woman!

I'm in my 40's and almost got excited once when I was told someone was knitting me a new cardy. They didn't knit it though.
I had the MRSA thingy aswell - was a tad intrusive I was like 'steady on love you aint diggin for oil you know'!
The reason I asked if it was CX is cos they have a specialist spinal unit there, but maybe it's only people in London who get referred and Ipswich have a specialist team too (well, they must have!). I was gonna say if you were in CX run like HELL from the Jehovas Witnesses, they hang around in the corridors, in the sitting/patients room...I even got cornered by one in the loo's near the main entrance (Told her to literally feck off - I had tubes and all sorts hangin out of orifices and the last thing I needed was to have them smashing the bible over my head)
Really wish you well with it- sounds like a straighforward procedure so you'll be right as rain in no time xx

I had a cackle out loud at that!!They said that although the cyst is around my spine... its still sited in the tissue... so, theoretically they shouldn't have to touch my spine (please don't touch my spine, please don't touch my spine).. they think that the nerve is just compressed.. not damaged and are optimistic that once the cyst (well... its a lipoma apparently) is removed the pressure will be gone... and normal service should resume.
And as for the JW's.... my husband would go mental if they started hanging around! They assimilated his mother by catching her at her lowest ebb (when his baby sister died... they were loitering around the hospital chapel)... I don't think he'd let them into the same ward as me.

oh god! proactive moisture seeking pants!!! Would anyone ever leave the house again! Reference:
as someone who just turned 40
40 is the ultimate age, why are you complaining?
Oh Dits honestly I've thrown many a JH off the doorstep but these lot took the piss, some even posed as patient visitors! There was about 5 of them dotted around the ward like some MI5 covert mission. Bloddy leeches
Don't worry too much if they do have to touch your spine, recovery might take longer but they know what they're doing (I triple checked and then some). I had cauda equina, and cos I'd had it for a few months that's why the recovery could take a few years (stooopid poxy local hospital caused that ) at least yours is diagnosed and ready to go kinda thing.xxx

I know, but you shouldn't have to . i cant fault my hospital (well, apart from the soul thirsty JH's and one nurse who nearly got my catheter wound round her ruddy neck cos she was so RUDE - she got told to feck off in no uncertain terms an all)Add Reply
