But people die suddenly at that age all the time. Difference being it's not on the news.
Of course people are dying everyday and it doesn't make the news ..............probably because they're not famous and it's really not of interest to a lot of people. I didn't know Steven Gately personally but i was shocked and upset to hear of his death as I knew him as a 'pop personality/star' whatever you want to call it.

My nieces best friend died suddenly a couple of weeks ago aged 32 - I was shocked and upset at that too.

i dont find it strange at all that it was reported on the news nor do I find it strange that his fans are shocked and upset.

Whether you loved him or not he was a young man who died. It was a shock. It would be for any person that age...that's publicised. I felt the same way about the 2 young girls who jumped off a bridge in Glasgow. I didn't know them either. It's a waste of a life.

People don't need to personally know someone to feel upset. It's the circumstances more than anything else.

I just think if people are this 'shocked and upset' at the death of someone they don't know, how the hell are they coping with death in their real lives.
Are you presuming that those who have posted have stopped everything they are doing and are weeping and wailing? Or could they merely have stopped for a few minutes in shock, posted on here and had a quiet think back to a few Boyzone songs?
I don't think it's fair to compare it to how someone copes with the death of someone they know. It's completely different.

I didn`t know them but I was upset about the girls who jumped off the bridge, Fiona Pilkington and her daughter who died in the car fire, the people in the twin towers, Diana, Patrick Swayze, Stephen Gately and so many more. I didn`t hide under the covers and weep like I did when my Mum died but it`s quite natural, for most people anyway, to feel shocked and upset by their deaths.

It's more a disbelief and sadness, that such a seemingly nice young person should go so suddenly.  That's an understandable reaction.     Last week when a not very well known druggie died of an apparent overdose,  somebody said they were 'gutted'. It's an individual reaction, proves we're  human with feelings eh?

Gately death 'natural causes'

Stephen Gately died of natural causes, a court official on the island of Majorca said.

The official said a post mortem had established that the singer suffered a pulmonary oedema, an accumulation of fluid on the lungs.

This would appear to confirm speculation that Mr Gately, who died after a night on the town on the island, choked on his vomit.

At a brief court hearing in the island's capital Palma, a judge said that Mr Gately's body could be taken home.
