You'd think FMs would give a new poster a break wouldn't you Carnelian? Even if that new poster was being slightly provacative and troll-like. Anyway, In my view, so many rich footballers have got off assault charges that it's quite astounding!
So obvious the judge was a Liverpool fan, as were all 12 members of the jury.

Can't be, they couldn't pick a whole jury from the dole register! Sorry - couldn't resist, old habbits die hard!

Oooh here goes..I'm a Liverpool fan but see it as the law goes..he was guilty..you can't have an arguement with a person..walk away then go back much later and hit him 3 times then run away and be innocent....

Hi seems from the media I've seen that he was guilty. Nice to see a fan who's not afraid to speak their mind. It's still a good result for Liverpool and Good luck for 2010

From the Independent:
"But the Recorder of Liverpool, Judge Henry Globe QC told Gerrard that what had appeared to be a "clear-cut case against you of unlawful violence" was nowhere near as straightforward after listening to the evidence. In an unusual move, as judges do not normally comment after not guilty verdicts, Judge Globe said Gerrard, Mr McGee, who lost a tooth and suffered cuts in the fight, and his partner all believed the footballer had struck first but that this version of events was contradicted by the CCTV footage.
"At all times you insisted that you only ever acted in what you believed was reasonable self-defence to what you understandably, albeit you accept mistakenly, believed was an attempted attack upon you by Marcus McGee," the judge said. "The verdict is a credible verdict on the full facts of this case, and you walk away from this court with your reputation intact.""
So, who was there to hear the case? I guess Judge Henry Globe QC was.

Ah, I think it meant that one of Gerrard's friends elbowed the victim in the face and it very quickly kicked off from there. The implication appears to be that the victim looked like he was about to hit Gerrard, rather than Gerrard's friend, and Gerrard hit him first, hence the self-defence claim.

Money and status talks - this verdict stinks
It is a little known fact that you can in fact strike first in self defence if you believe an attack is imminent. Gerrard was obviously advised of this by his lawyer and the fact the other bloke had been agressive towards him earlier obviously would have helped in his favour.
