Many times as a child, I've sat on top of stacked bales of hay (on a tractor and trailer) with the hay jagging my bum - made of strong stuff!

You can't eat them as they are on the RSPB Red List.
They are a game bird so I assume you could eat them.

It was more of a general question as opposed to any conservation worries. A bit like swans.
