Just interested in why people on this thread seem to like Dr Who. I used to (a lot), but feel that it's been going down hill for a couple of series now. The stories are a bit re-hashed and some of the conclusion / climax scene's seem to be the Dr. spouting a string of technical gibberish which ends up in everything  working out just fine.

Even some of my friends who are real die hard fans are getting a bit tired of it especially the new Dr. He just don't seem to cut it.

Although it just shades it when compared to the last Torchwood series which was atrocious.

IMO. Time for a new Dr. and new writers with fresh ideas.

I like Dr Who but I hope there's more autumn stuff than that!  The new doctor is good Amy Pond is an excellent character and it's a shame she's leaving the show.  I've liked all the Dr Who companions except Catherine Tate (as she just seemed like a Catherine Tate character) but even she had some good episodes and moments of poignant acting.

My criticism of Dr Who is that it's a bit cheesy and most episodes don't quite deliver on repeat viewing.  One of the things I don't much care for is the tendency to portray the Doctor as messianic figure and super hero.  It's a kid's show so it doesn't bear over analysis... but for a "kid's show", it certainly goes beyond typical kids' understanding of the world!

There's been some stand out duff episodes like the Olympic themed one. the talking fat one and the one with crappy Peter Kay, who is as crap as a comedian as he was in Dr Who.  There's been more stand out excellent episodes.

I probably agree with most of what you wrote there Carnelian, especially the Amy Pond character, but that could do with the fact I fancy her !!!

Oh and yes, Peter Kay rubbish and that other comedian (is it Cordon? - don't like him).

But in terms of a series, I do feel there are too many "filler " episodes. It's a bit like Star Trek TNG, you could tell when they were running out of cash, they filmed a predominantly dialogue driven, small number of sets piece.

Anyway, I want to know what they are going to do with the Dr. character as he is running out of regenerations.
