I was going to say the same, but I came to the H2G2 via the radio programmes, I then went back and read the books.
I also heard the radio prog first and have the box set. The books I like too. However neither the tv or film did anything for me!

I too have the radio box set the film I did not enjoy so much, I liked the TV series at the time (I was a schoolboy and it was popular amongst some of my peer group).
I just noticed on Wikipedia that the book cover is the one I own. It says it's the first edition cover. I will have to go check mine
