Doesn't anyone find it totally wrong that in a strange country, in a hotel room where they would have no idea who was in the next door rooms to them that they would leave they kids "ALONE" while they swanned off to a restaurant, and that somehow (by total terrible luck) a child abductor just happened to be around and somehow knew that there were kids left alone in that hotel room?

Sorry, I dont buy the parents story at all.

I don't honestly know what to think about the Madeleine McCann case.

In the early days, my disgust at their selfish and negligent actions in leaving three small children alone in an apartment so they could go out dining and drinking with friends, combined with their emotionless, detached manner following Madeleine's disappearance, probably coloured my view of them.

I've read lots of articles on the this subject and am none the wiser. There are lots of unanswered questions and lots of contradictions in the McCann's statements.

If Madeleine was abducted, then the McCanns have paid an enormous price for their negligence and their hearts must be broken. However, most of my sympathy is for a little girl who paid the ultimate price, for her parents failing to put her safety before their enjoyment.

Agreed.

If it had been joe bloggs on benefit their ass would be in jail and the kids taken from them. The McCanns are both Doctors and imo were treated differently, how did they come back here to tea and sympathy and be able to have two small children in their care when it was obvious that they had neglected/abandoned them  in Portugal .

It baffles me that they went out to eat leaving three kids the oldest being 4!! home alone .Two people have to take ownership of Madeline's abduction ,the parents.

Piss poor organisation from the start then.

9 adults at supper.......

They could have checked every 5 minutes (and probably passed the previous checker en route) and still only have had to get up ONCE every 45 minutes.

That pretty much sums up my feelings. They never seemed to blame themselves the way normal people would

Or one of the group could have taken one for the team and stayed with the kids all evening,  then the others could take it in turns other nights, but thats too obvious I guess.

As much as I would like to think that she is still alive, do you really think whoever has her would still be calling her Madeleine?  And what sort of party was it that grown men were being introduced to little girls who may potentially be part of probably one of the biggest missing child cases in the last 10 years.

That's what I think too.

And to be honest if it was my child and she really had been kidnapped, I would hope that it was to order for a childless couple, and she was living a charmed life.

But it it was kidnapped to order for a paedophile ring, I would honestly hope she had died very soon after rather than living that life.

Well said cinds, if she was taken at 3 years old and groomed for perverts her whole life, it would be utterly heartbreaking.
I hope too that if she's alive then she's been adopted by a childless couple who'll love her and treat her kind. The chances of her living a free life like that are slim though with her distinctive eye marking.

The information released through the media can lead to speculation without knowing the fuller story. It seems the police are taking this seriously which is good news, whether it's a good lead or another dead end won't be known for a while. I really hope for the McCanns after their 6 year nightmare that at last they are on the brink of truth.

I was thinking that. If I was her mother, I'd be going frantic all over again.

I'm not sure I understand the concept of them having to apologise for someone making off with their child.
I also don't understand the concept of them not showing the correct emotional reactions after the event. A lot of us Mums n Dads, Grans and Grandpas, haven't read the approved Sun reader playbook of worry, grief, and hysteria.
I must say, much kudos and respect to those who have never let their kids out of their sight mind.
