This song always makes me blub. I used to sing my baby to sleep with it and (morbid I know) I would like it played at my funeral.

God Bless The Child & Good Morning Heartache - Billie Holiday
Cry Me A River - Julie London
Oldies, but chokers everytime.

'Run'...but by Snow Patrol rather than Leona Lewis. ("Light up, light up; as if you have a choice" - really strikes a chord for me).
'I'll be Seeing You'....Billie Holiday (the words make me think of those I've lost).

"The greatest love of all" George Benson, reminds me of a really tough period in my life
"Nessun Dorma" Pavarotti - reminds me of my nan who loved the song and I lost her in 1991 and to this day it still makes me cry... even when it was sung on BGT, it made me cry.

Oh, there are so many...in fact, if I ever deciee the world needs my autobiography, I'll probably just release a soundtrack album
A lot of mine have already been mentioned, but here's a few more...
A kind of magic by Queen, and Faith of the Heart by Russell Watson have special meaning to me...and for different reasons, so do Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat, and How it Ends by Devotchka.
But there's one song from the 70s which not only reduces me to tears, it brings me out in a cold sweat and puts my adrenal glands into meltdown...so you can imagine the industrial strength medications I needed when it was chosen as the Comic Relief single a few years ago...
Young Girl- Gary Pucket and the Union Gap...reminds me of my first crush at 12 years old...he was 21
Our House-Madness..Me and my two sons used to sing it before school everyday..still cant listen to it all these years later
Two Little Boys-Rolf Harris...Personal reasons
Crazy- Patsy Cline...in my morose drinking days
Willie Nelson...Country and Western singer but anything by his haunting voice gets to me
loads more

Tomorrow, from the musical Annie, since it was played at a funeral for a local little girl,i have never seen so many grown men cry.
Also , The Old Rugged Cross, which was sung at my dads funeral, since then, any funeral we go to,it is sung and they always say,we had it because we loved it at your dads funeral.

Unforgettable - Nat King Cole (Backing track to the Vienetta advert) It was on the telly screen in the hospital as I looked up at the screen as my dad lay dying
Just thought of another one that cracks me - totally - the hymn Abide with me. It was played at my grandads funeral and now cup final day I have to turn the sound off so as I can't hear it.

Standing knee deep in a river. dying of thirst Standing knee deep
for a dancer although prefer the Chrisine Collister version

The Living Years - Mike n the Mechanics. ALWAYS brings tears to my eyes because I saw my daughter in a choir at the NIA performing it, and also her father who no longer can be arsed with her lost HIS father at the time the song was out. Kills me to hear it - it really does. Hopefully most of you will 'know' about my daughter by now.

Agree that's a fab tune Barmy
Both my parents were Irish Catholics, (I'm a bit of a lapsed Catholic, but I know you never truly leave.) At my Dads funeral we had Frank Sinatra - I did it my way (cos he did) and Danny Boy, sang by Josef Locke. I used to love Sunday mornings when I was a child, my mum used to sing all the Irish songs to me. I even found Noreen Bawn on you tube today It would have been mum's birthhday last Friday 10/07/09. This thread has been lovely today, I've listened to every song.quote:Originally posted by Supercalifragilistic:quote:Originally posted by Essex Angel:quote:Originally posted by Supercalifragilistic:

Oh I tell you what - a song that sends a shiver down my spine (and quite sad too) is the one 'Veil of White Lace' song about a bloke who shoots the wrong woman at her wedding - OMG... I only just thought of it now because I was thinking of Irish stuff and it was on an 'Irish' CD that I have got - bloody hell if you havent heard it - go listen

I have as well Essex. Been in floods of tears at all of them too. Made me drag out the old record player, and play a lot of oldies. Dunno if anyone has heard 'Medals for Mothers'. I sang it to mine on her 60th birthday and she gave me a slap! I'm laughing and snottering at the memory!
