i know im old fashioned but nothing wrong with being discreet

theres always pervs out there who would sidle up to get a better view (of the woman-not the kid!)

i know its natural etc...

but i'd be uncomfortable if the woman in a cafe..whatever... wopped one out to feed her kid

i know im pathetic...sorry

however she shouldnt be called a tramp for feeding her kid

also i cant explain why i'd be embarrassed-i just would

Gawd  you are coming across as right creepy in this thread , mate.

I thought it was a fair point

Well it wasn't - It was just stupid!

Sorry Saint.

I have probably come to this debate a little late, but in this instance I have recent experience to draw on.

I have over the last few years seen more women in Sheffield breastfeeding in public. But more regularly I have noticed in my regular coffee shop a young woman breastfeeding her baby whilst she enjoys drinks with her other toddler.

She seems to have the whole thing down to a very slick process and uses a light shaul (sp) draped over one shoulder and the baby's head so as to obscure the breastfeeding.

I have not noticed any staring or adverse reactions on the 3 or 4 occasions I have seen her.

My understanding is that it is very good for the baby to be breastfed and I would encourage and support anyone who wished to do it.

It was Costa , wasn't it?

I'm intrigued to how you came to this conclusion

I used to meet a friend in there , after she had, had her baby, it was full of mums and babies and breastfeeding, it appeared very mum/baby friendly, the place was littered with those big wheeled off road baby buggies.

Hence the comparison

Are you actually for real? You are honestly comparing breastfeeding in public with urinating in a public place? The reason Urinating in public is illegal is because it's a hygiene issue It's not like a lactating woman covers a pavement etc in milk and expects to people walk through it......

Why is there always one moronic comment that derails a good thread?

I feel like I've just been in an episode of Sherlock. If you had started off your piece with "elementary my dear Confusibles" it would have been complete.

But yes Costa does appear to be very new mother friendly.

The thing is Pirate, that's the problem of the 'pervs' How anyone would see a mother feeding her baby as sexual is beyond me

Why on earth would you apologise?

What, those dicks who thought it was sexual and offensive?

Nevair! You can hang your 2000s on a nail.
One thinks back to our groups, be we pick nicking by Ian R, the back of the arms, or in Rockener Park. We all had our kids at the same time and one can only speculate what might have happened should some meddlesome ratbag have approached us and said, "Don't breast feed here, go to the High Street and do it in full view of the passing scratters!"
You will really love our next MP! She's an expert too!
