I don't think it is nowadays Renton , although I admit that when I was young I often got a smack on the legs

I had a good clip round the ear given to me as a child, didn't do me any harm I wouldn't want to see any child abused though, I see why these laws have been brought in to protect them I know a lot of parents do smack their children, but make sure it's not done in public

Smacking is just an admittance of defeat and only teaches them do deal with problems in the same way.

 

I smacked my daughter once and have never quite got over it even though she absolved me a long time ago.

Like Cologne I don't believe in smacking... anyone I know in RL who was smacked/slapped as a child or even teen [including me] only resents the parent deep down, all their lives.

I don't believe in smacking either - only ever once kinda smacked my niece.

 

She ran into the road to cross it without looking where she was going and was almost knocked down.  In fright I pulled her back and smacked her behind but it didn't  really make contact.  I think it was fright more than anything.

 

The thing I find though is that you can use alternate punishment by taking something away from the child i.e playstation but parents very rarely ever follow  with this form of punishment or given in far too quickly and hand the item back for a quiet life

Je has never smacked our children's botties.

I did once slap our eldest on the arm after she whacked her sister across the head - can't remember why she whacked her sister however.

I've regretted it ever since.
