Despite having a MASSIVE budget and Ant and Dec compering it and despite it's continual hype for the past few weeks; this show has bombed.  As it says in the news story (that I have put a link to below; )  the details emerged about Red or Black, and on paper, it looked like a game-changer; the £15 million budget, the opening rounds at Wembley Arena, Ant and Dec, £1 million up for grabs on every show, someone's life potentially changing forever on the roll of a roulette wheel, etc etc etc.  Yet everything about the show is wrong and viewers have fallen off in droves, from the first night.

Not a shock really, as the upshot is, it's an absolute massive load of crap!  The first night I saw it, I thought, what a stupid, shit, pointless game (and there is ANOTHER shit programme, POINTLESS on the BBC at teatime!)  But this Red or Black thing was hyped to buggery and it's CRAP!  It's can be fixed from the onset as it's all computerised, and there it's nothing to do with 'chance,' and it is simply overhyped rubbish!

Anyone else seen this hogwash?

Totally true Rawky, and I just read a story on the internet about how X Factor is basically, the kiss of death for anyone's singing career.  I have 2 nieces who want to be singers and performers, but they said they would rather work in Primark for the rest of their lives, than go on that show, as it ruins careers before they start.

As this feature states; there is very little talent or gumption in X factor finalists and winners, and most of them have not ever worked hard to make it... or done ANYthing really....they just think they are a star to begin with and that they can just walk straight into fame... so when they fail to make the grade and their songs don't sell and the record company ditches them, they don't know which way to turn, because they have usually not ever done anything in that business...  They should work their way up, but many X factor wannabes do not.

Hi Suzy.  Sorry, I really don't like 'Pointless,' but each to their own.

X Factor is basically, the kiss of death for anyone's singing career.

Not that I'm a fan of either, and they are probably the exception, but I doubt Leona Lewis or Alexandra Burke would agree with that.

Or JLS come to think of it and they didn't even win.. and let's not mention the evil Twins.

this is it Kaffy - how many of those that you've mentioned have got any chance of longevity???

Leona Lewis has had a few good hits, but she's hardly set the world on fire like i.e. Adele.  Likewise with Alexandera Burke who I personally think is a not half bad singer.  As for JLS - they might appeal to the girlies at the moment, but these girlies are fickle and grow up so for how long will JLS be popular?

I really like Pointless. It's obviously very well rehearsed, but somehow that doesn't take away from it being funny. Alexander and Richard play really well off each other and, if I were suzy, I'd be on iplayer and catch up with as many episodes as I could. Hope you had a lovely holiday suzy.

As for Red & Black, I saw the trailers and was put off, so I can't comment, sorry cupcake.

I agree with all that Pengy.. but there are very few Adele's around.. well.. there are probably lots of Adele's around, but the chance of them getting the breaks that Leona, Alexandra and JLS have are pretty remote.      Leona still seems to be churning out singles and as far as I've read is doing ok in America - that's no small achievement.   I'm sure all of them will have made a pretty penny and if they are sensible will be set up with a great start in life and more of a career than they were ever likely to achieve if they'd not done X Factor and were still manning a reception desk or a shop counter.   I'm sure few contestants who have got to the finals will say that it turned their career on a downward path is all I'm saying.

I get what you're saying Kaffy and I respect your opinion, but I do have to respectfully disagree.  I actually think that the vast majority of people who go on X factor are effectively saying goodbye to any chance of a long successful career, and they have also said goodbye to any chance of being taken seriously as an artist in the music industry...  but they can say a big hello to being a puppet of Simon Cowell's and to any chance of being themselves and doing what THEY want!  You can virtually count on the fingers of one hand the amount of people who have very successful and well-respected careers after any of the reality tv talent shows.

Girls Aloud and Will Young are the only ones who I think have been very successful and had a bit of respect in the music industry, and have not been dropped by the record company after 1 or 2 years.  Alexandra Burke has had an 'ok' success, but her songs are drivel. And Leona Lewis may have had a 'fairly' successful career so far, but she is wholly contrived, fake and manufactured and there is nothing about her that screams naturally gifted raw talent: (like Adele or Amy Winehouse...)  And she has no stage presence or strong personality IMO.  I wouldn't actually go and see her in concert if it was in my back garden and it was free... she is not a star IMO..  she is an OK looking girl who has been moulded by Cowell, and he had to push her on Oprah: using *his* status in America to publicise her... do you really think that she would have had any success in America without Cowell pushing her into everyone's face?  Because I don't...

And do you think she is going to maintain that success for years and years, and be up there with the likes of Mariah, Whitney, Britney, Madonna, Shania and Celine?  These are artists who have natural talent and star quality and gumption, and Leona has none.  She is as dull as ditchwater and has no personality at all, only what has been drummed into her by Cowell.  And her latest single is an absolute load of drivel.

Alexandra Burke is an OK singer but her songs are naff and banal parp IMO, and I predict that within 2 years she will be dropped by the record company and the following year she will be on Dancing on ice.  The vast majority of people who have ever gone on pop idol or X factor, have not gone on to a successful and well resepected career in rock.  Maybe a few of them have had some kind of 'career,' in showbiz that they wouldnt have had otherwise, but is it the career that they expected to have?  i seriously doubt it...  And the amount of people who got to the top 10 or 12 in the show(s) who came to nothing afterwards, far outweighs the ones who continue to be in the public eye and continue to stay in work in the showbiz world.

JMHO, but I still think that if somebody wants to have a successful and well-respected career in the music industry, entering the X factor is a bad move.  If you don't maintain massive success (and most do not; ) you're dropped like a red hot poker, as quick as you can say 'shallow money hungry git drops another artist!'

I agree with your musical points but I did enjoy her interview in the Guardian on Saturday and I can't see them allowing her to be prompted by the evil one. She came across very well.

Hi GJ.  I am not saying LL is a crap person LOL, she is probably quite nice deep down once you get to know her properly... It's just that whenever I see her, i feel like she is saying what Cowell is telling her to say and her 'pop persona' is as dull as ditchwater, and very contrived IMO.

And like I said, Cowell had to push her on Oprah and use 'his fame there to do so... she couldn't actually manage on her own merits, and even now, I bet most Americans aren't blown away by her.  There are far more big huge brilliant and talented artists, and Americans arent going to be overly impressed by a talent show winner from Britain who could be called rather average at best.

JMO of course.

*needs a lie down after reading cupcake's post*  (well most of it.. cos my dinner's almost ready)

I don't think you're disagreeing with me at all cupcake - I can't stand Leona Lewis and completely agree with everything you say about her stage presence etc.   That's exactly what I was getting at - without X Factor she would have had NO music career imo.   So.. i think she'd disagree that the X Factor was the kiss of death to her music career.  That's all I was getting at.

Short llived their careers may be,. but without X Factor she'd still be doing karaoke or getting the odd job singing in local clubs.

And with the latest news of them trying to get the £1 million winner rebuked of his win coz he said he fought with a man instead of a woman in his interview, although he did time for this is a petty excuse for trying not to pay out. He won the game so he should get his money- end of.   ITV would loose this in a court of Law IMO.

Jonesy

Jonesy ,I agree ,legally he served his time etc. There have been a couple of lotto winners who were criminals. One was still serving a term(rape) ,however he was allowed out on licence and bought a ticket, then won millions. You are not asked anything when you hand  over your pound to buy a ticket.

kattymieoww
According to R5 Murdoch's papers are still whining on about the winner! I don't think the man in the street could care less - I assume that he won fair n square. I suppose it means that they don't have to write about phone hacking ........

I agree Jonsey, he isn't a serial offender and has turned his life around....another thing is, why are the Media trying to make him seem so much worse because it turns out he beat a Woman up? Isn't beating ANYONE up, be it male or Female just as bad as each other? I wonder how long before his victim is suing him for 'trauma, stress and depression'? Call me cynical........

I do agree.  The guy did a bad thing and went to prison and did his time, and he was sorry and as far as I know, has not 'offended' since, so why does it have to be dragged up?  And yes it wouldn't surprise me if the woman came into the press and sold her story or something!

The press just HAD to make him out to be a monster though didn't they?  It's like Cheryl Cole.. I am not a massive fan of hers, but I get sick of people dragging up that incident in the loos in a nightclub where she hit someone when she was like 19 or something.. she has done a lot of other stuff and all anyone ever does is drag this incident up from almost 10 years ago.  I think some folk just thrive on negativity.
